I expected a lot from this book, and I got even more than expected. Besides a lot of beautiful color photos, some two pages wide, there is a wealth of family photos. Not only pictures of Laura's immediate family, but the aunts and uncles, and even their Minnesota neighbors, the Nelsons. This book solves the mystery of what the China Shepherdess looks like as well as Laura's China Box. There is even a photo of Dr. Tan's grave. If you can't visit the places in Laura's books, this book will take you there, and also take you where you can no longer go with photos taken by Garth Williams and other photographers of places that no longer exist. There are even photos of paintings done by Harvey Dunn, Grace's husband, based on Laura's family and a painting done by Laura to explain to Grace what a tree looked like. You can see Pa's cottonwoods that survive today as well as the remnants of Almanzo's tree claim. And just as wonderful, the book fills in details not in Laura's books, so you can find out about her baby brother. The only thing lacking is a photo of Nellie Oleson. You won't be disappointed!

A beautifully photographed book that gives the reader an idea of what the places in Wilder's books really looked like. These sights are what Laura was envisioning when she wrote her childhood memories.

My favorite picture is the wedding photo of Caroline and Charles Ingalls. Since they are always seen from Laura's perspective, it's easy to forget that they were once a young couple just starting out on their married life together, with no idea of what the future would bring. It was just a thought that occurred to me when I saw the picture. You just know they never expected that millions of people in the 20th century would fondly know of them as the Ma and Pa Ingalls.

Wonderful glossy full spread pictures of the beautiful grasses and flowers. Makes you want to live on the prairie!!

I loved seeing the pictures of Laura and her family. I am sure my sisters are going to love this book too.

I also liked the extra tidbits of information. Even has quotes from some unpublished books written by Laura.

My review is not the best just wanted to give the book another 5 stars.

I borrowed this book from the library and read it cover to cover. There was a lot of good information about Laura and her family in the book. There were many pictures of all the places that she lived. I really felt like I understood her a lot better after reading this book. It also talks about how Garth Williams went to the places that she lived and saw them firsthand, to try and reconstruct memories of her childhood into the drawings in the Little House books. This is a great book for serious Laura Ingalls Wilder fans, who want to learn more about what happened to her and her family after the Little House series ended.

Great book for traveling to a Laura Ingalls Wilder site either in person or imaginery.I fortunately, have done both.

I bought this book as a follow-up gift to the Little House series for my husband, a big, burly OTR driver who has had the opportunity to see "Little House" country. He loves this book! He shows it to politely bored other adults, then we have to wrest it from their grasps. The pictures and text lead to so many thoughts and discussions.

Well-written, with lots of autobiographical detail and quality photos. Highly recommended for fans. We are using this as a resource to help plan our vacation this summer.

Enjoyed this book very much. Loved the pictures, great job. Just wondering how the people of De smet South Dakota feel about being completly left out of the 1970's TV series of "Little House"? Also the people of Burr Oak Iowa, when the series moved the family to a different town than they really lived in, which was Burr Oak. Pepin Wisconsin was never mentioned. How do they feel?

This book has lots of great pics of the Ingalls family and the places they lived. I would recommend.

This is such a fantasic book filled with pictures,descriptions and more of the places Laura Ingalls Wilder grew up during the trying pioneer times. You get to see places that she hasn't included in her series of "Little House" books, like the hotel that she helped with cooking meals at; when she was just ten years old!

I also loved all the illustrations,actual pictures of places Laura lived, descriptions from the books and other writings that Laura did while growing up on the prairie. The amazing thing is the pictures of the real Ingalles including Laura and her sisters Mary and Carrie together taken while they first moved to the Dakota area. Also the pictures of Laura and Almanzo are truly terrific. This is such a wonderful treasured keep-sake for any and all fans of the "Little House" books, t.v. series, Disney version and of course fans of Laura Ingalls Wilder herself.
