More About the Author

Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in the Wisconsin woods in 1867. She wrote the Little House books based on her own experiences growing up on the Western frontier. Just like the characters in her stories, Laura and her family traveled by covered wagon across the Midwest and experienced many of the same adventures. She finally settled down in Mansfield, Missouri with her husband, Almanzo, where she lived until her death in 1957.

Format: Hardcover
Laura Ingalls Wilder series of Little House on the Prarie books has been compiled into a 2 volume work by the Library Of America. It comes in a hard jacket holding the two volumes.

I was an avid reader as a kid and when I saw this series became available recently, I immediately ordered it. As a 7 ear old- I had read the entire series and loved each book.

Each night I read one chapter of this simple yet, beautiful view of life in America in the late 1800's in the Mid West.
The clarity with which it is written puts the reader in the cabin where the Ingalls family lives. We experience their hopes and dreams, their fears, their overall isolation outside of the immediate family circle.

These books force many issues of life as we know it to be examined, since there is an entire array of thoughts and feelings we miss, as we scurry about.
The overall structure of life - so different then, creates a pure and unadulterated view of a family that lives to care for and take care of one another.
to compare life today with what we see in these volumes, is a total disconnect!

These books are a gift - of a life that most will never know. However, the ability to peek into the Ingalls windows and view it as an outsider is close enough to convince the reader it was far more authentic than anything we know today!

I found these two volumes very well written and enjoyed both tremendously. I recommend these to anyone interested in Laura Ingalls Wilder's actual life, not her TV life.
