4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as her first album, but still great, October 30, 2000
This review is from: Laura (Italian) (Audio CD)
This is the other album of original material in Italian, from which some songs were pulled to be rerecorded in Spanish for her first Latin American album. I'm sure whomever owns her first Spanish language album will recognize and adore the first five songs on this album. For me, Lui Non Sta Per Te is even better than El No Esta Por Ti, its Spanish counterpart. On the other hand, I like the Spanish version of Ragazze Che (Las Chicas) more than the Italian one. But these are minor points- these songs are great in both languages.

Again, there are some songs here that didn't make the cut when songs were chosen to be rerecorded in Spanish. Of the four, two are great, and the other two are horrible. Un Amico E Cosi is similar in style to Lui Non Sta..., and Amori Strani. I love the lyrics- it is a song about the beauty of a great friendship. The only thing that I sort of dislike is how she tries to be overly emotional in one stanza towards the end. The other great song, Amori Infiniti, gets better with repeated listening. At first, the background sounds a bit too cloying, but I love how the song builts to an emotional end. In this case, the emotional delivery isn't stilted, as is the case with Un Amico E Cosi.

Like another reviewer said, you can't escape some boring songs here. I can't really understand how it is that the two "bad" songs made it on the album to make ten songs, when on her first album there are only eight songs, which was fine. Both Cani E Gatti and Anni Miei sound very dated and childish. I can't stand the "uh, uh" in the beginning of the Cani E Gatti, and Anni Miei sounds like she recorded it in fifth grade. I know this is being harsh, but when you hear what Laura Pausini is capable of singing, you can't justify the inclusion of such substandard material.

The last song is the original Italian version of Carta, which I've always been fond of, though it's not among the best that she recorded during this time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laura Pausini The greatest!!, April 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Laura (Italian) (Audio CD)
This is one of the best cd from her, this album is a very special one, this cd was translate in spanish, and all is reflected on the way she sings the feelings that she gave when she sings, the way she do it, is the way like if you were listening to your heart, the lirics talk about things that happens to everybody, but not all the people can see, then when you listen to her song, you notice that is true, and then you feel everytime you listen to her ,like if she were teaching you to listen the inside of you, your heart!!

5.0 out of 5 stars She Didn't Have a Clue, June 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Laura (Italian) (Audio CD)
It's hard to think that it has been seventeen years since this album was released, and eighteen years since this nervous beauty stepped onto the stage in San Remo to belt out the story of Marco and her trials coping with his departure and to think that she didn't have a clue that she'd eventually become the most famous Italian songstress the world has ever known.

This 1994 album, "Laura", contains the remarkable song, "Strani Amori" (Strange Loves). If you haven't seen the video, look it up on either YouTube or Dailymotion. There is a b/w version, and a color version. Though not a high tech production, you will appreciate this song even more. In fact, the video is shot in a very creative way, for the small budget on hand, ending with a beautiful video protraiture of a smiling, barely 20 yr old Laura. The song is melodramatic, colorful, and even has a true choral accompaniment, which was a popular trend in the early 90's, especially in the U.S. Laura's interpretation of this song is unmatched to this date. In fact, because her voice has changed over nearly two decades, especially in regards to pitch and power, this 1994 version is most likely the best rendition ever sung, live or recorded.

"Amori Infiniti" is a song that has many a time been overlooked. Perhaps many first-time listeners judge it by its first ten seconds, as it starts out as what would sound like a corny or cheesy song, and then skip to the next track. But when further listened to, "Amori Infiniti" becomes a deep, emotional, and higher quality ballad. There is a transition in the structure of the song that is repeated at least three times. While most songs today simply repeat a chorus line by shifting up one half to one key for intensity, this song employs a unique transitional technique found in classic standards.

An unpopular song would seem to be "Anni Miei" ("My Years"), certainly a significant departure from the mood of the album. However, it was meant to be a teen song, about a girls desire to 'bust out' of her shell and take on the world and find that doing it her way lends to her satisfaction. For an album entitled, "Laura", this song is certainly appropriate, as since this was in her very early years, or months for that matter, she certainly fulfilled it. The 'childish' voice matched the flavor of the lyrics as well. Whether this was unintended, only she and her production crew at the time knew. What is too bad is that no official video for it exists. It would be fun to see how a video would be matched to this song to highlight a humorous side to the Laura we have become used to.

In the last two albums, a pair of songs were weak, and tended to resurrect the grungy, rocky style of American music of the late 80's. These could have been dropped, and one does appear in this album, and I will let you figure which one. But in the early 1990's, with great influence from 80's music, this is how a producer would think overseas, where trends and styles are up to three years in arrears.

Laura does not sing like this anymore. Today, and for at least the last ten years, she has pursued another direction, highlighting other remarkable singing abilities. The first two albums highlight what some have called, 'the Real Laura', the Laura Pausini with unmatchable Italian Heart & Soul.

The album "Laura", when looking back nearly twenty years ago, is certainly a very great album. The first album introduced a great singer, and this second album guaranteed to her and the world a lifetime of success. And to think, back in 1993, when she walked on that stage at San Remo and faced a televison audience, as far as what was to be, she didn't have a clue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, but some songs are not Laura style, December 1, 1999
This review is from: Laura (Italian) (Audio CD)
It's the only album of Laura that you can not avoid the boring songs. Well, borings songs appear in any album of any artist, but not of Laura. But, it worth to buy it only for the first songs, and for the song "Amore Infiniti", that appears only in this album. The Spanish version of this album is also pretty much good, and has only beautiful songs - the bests from the version of this album in Italian, and from another one in Italian. I don't like the style of music that she sings in the lasts songs. It's not her style. But, anyway, Laura is Laura! I do not regret to buy this album and still listen to this with all my heart. I know the songs by heart. I loved this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars wtf, this cd has got to be number one in my I don't know how many 1000's of cd's, December 26, 2006
This review is from: Laura (Italian) (Audio CD)
so everybody understands, wtf?, this cd is perhaps one in my 1000's cd's I have heard, well, hear it here now, THE BEST, I own maybe all of her cd's and played it tonight during christmas dinner with the family, they all asked who is she?, this is candy to your ears but then again that saying is too old for this cd, in fact this is an understatement, what do you call it when the right words are not found to describe something?, a few days ago this guy compared laura pausini with celine dion, that is a good joke, laura says when she is singing: "ah, is this the way you want to sing celine", but then again we all have to compare to make a point just to make a point so a very few people get the point but it's well worth it....ah the sweet life, that is what this cd says all over...
