Truly Disappointing, February 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Laura Lemay's Guide to Sizzling Web Site Design (Paperback)
I have read 3 of her books, and as aforementioned by another reviewer, I have yet to find a winner. The material offered in this book is not concise, nor is it clear. I am not a newbie to web design, but I must admit I found her book to be...Hmm..."flighty". Her site for the book appears poorly designed, and I regret the hard-earned cash forked over for it, but..Live and Learn. This is the last strike. I shall not be perusing another of her attempts, regardless of the subject. My advice? Save your money. Check out "Creating Killer Websites - Second Edition" by David Siegel. Now THERE'S money well-spent!

The author understands very little about design!, September 1, 1997

Pretty colors. Fancy pictures. Poor writing. Disastrous fluff on design that will do more harm than good.
This overpriced and poorly written book should have been summed up in about 20 pages in some other book. ie there's not much substance. The only problem is the usefulness of those 20 pages would be suspect.
If there was a redeeming quality to this book I certainly didn't find one. I suggest you save your money and spend it on something that will help you.

My husband decide to help me in my new job as a Web developer. I work with HTML and JavaScript to design pages. I just got my certificate and my first job. He buy me 3 Lemay books to help me do good. All turns out to be duds. My own boss tells me to not listen to anything written in these books and to unlearn it. I want to warn others that may make the same mistake.

Lemay's Guide to Fizzling Web Design is NOT all that..., June 28, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Laura Lemay's Guide to Sizzling Web Site Design (Paperback)
As a paperweight, Laura Lemay's Guide to Sizzling Website Design serves a useful purpose. As a book, Laura Lemay's Guide to Sizzling Website Design serves no useful purpose and deserves no attention whatsoever. Never in all my years have I seen a book that was so full of fluff that it was little more than a dressed up magazine article.
The book is oozing with graphics, colors, and pictures, so much so that it seems the book's editor was trying to create a collage rather than a book. Beyond the poorly executed attempt to lure $49.99 out of your pocketbook with slick graphics and dizzying colors, the book has no real substance and I found it lacking at every turn. No, the $49.99 price tag for one of the shortest computer books in publishing history is not a typo--I wish it was, but it isn't.
Last year Laura Lemay pushed her name onto more books than you can shake a stick it at. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Laura Lemay Web Workshop books have consistently lacked the style and appeal that made Teach Yourself HTML a best-seller. Whatever happened to the Laura Lemay that sizzled as a writer?
This former fan of Laura Lemay books is officially tuning out and joining an ever growing number of disillusioned readers in the Ban Laura Lemay Books Club.

Review of Laura Lemay's Guide to Sizzling Web Site Design, August 4, 1997

This review is from: Laura Lemay's Guide to Sizzling Web Site Design (Paperback)
I have reviewed many books in my time, but none have ever caught my attention with the finnesse and style which this author has has so creatively delivered. Generally speaking, the average computer oriented book is focused to a unique market of individuals at either beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels in that particular topic. Molly Holzschlag positively has broken the mold and created her own brand of writing unlike no other to date. The book is designed in such a matter that no matter what the level of understanding by the reader in regard to knowledge of web site design, there is a literal cornacopia of knowledge awaiting them from the first moment of opening the book.
The book is laid out well with creative illustrations of a large variety of web sites for illustrative technique in helping the reader
to grasp the message in the analogy. The book is structured in an orderly and yet creative manner which draws the reader to develop an intense hunger to continue on to learn even more of the many secrets hiding amongst the pages of the book.
There are vast amount of web sites featured in this book. Each web site has specific tips or technique illustrated pertaining to the site
which is being discussed. I personally, have gained a new view of how my own websites can be re-designed to improve the impact or impression for those who gaze upon them. In essence, this book is a must have tool for any person involved with the web who is seeking to understand the structuring of the Internet as well as those who seek to master the usage of the web for commercial purposes.
