5.0 out of 5 stars Laura's early years collection
I have been reading these books since I was a little girl. I have been through three or four sets. And now I'm here to hopefully pass on the best childrens books I have ever read. My daughter will be eight soon and these will make a perfect gift. I recomend these books to anyone looking for long hours of enjoyable reading!

3.0 out of 5 stars 10 yrs ago it was great-now its sad!
When I was about 9 I read every book in this series and absolutely loved them. The thought of travelling around a country in the wild and living off the land was exciting to a child who was born and grew up in the same house. Now, reading the whole serise again as a wife and mother,I feel sad to read and understand all the parts I missed.Thousands of settlers just like...

5.0 out of 5 stars An educational and enjoyable treat for children...., July 24, 2000

This review is from: Laura's Early Years Collection: Little House in the Big Woods/Little House on the Prairie/on the Banks of Plum Creek (Paperback)
My mother read this book aloud to me when I was 7, and I cannot remember anything else that enthralled me as much during that entire year. Laura Ingalls Wilder tenderly describes the fun and hardship her family experienced as early American settlers, and Garth Williams' illustrations gave me fodder for countless dreams. One of the best books I can imagine buying for any child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little House In The Big Woods, June 21, 2001

I received my first Laura Ingalls Wilder book when I was nine years old, and went on to receive one each birthday and Christmas until I had the entire series. They transported me to a world few movies, t.v. shows (including the series!) ever went to...and I am still fasinated with this woman's life. I recommend it for all children and soon will start reading it to my three grandchildren, so their hearts and minds can come alive in a time and world they can only visit thru these wonderfull images of the author. This entire series is only rivaled by Louisa May Alcott...and these are easier for a child to read. Please enjoy the wanderings and hopes and dreams of the Ingalls as they moved thru the midwest...it's worth every moment you spend. The illustrations are so perfect...not glamorizing how Laura or the family looked... in a time before makeup and curling irons, when barefoot along the banks of plum creek was the best! ENJOY

I love all of Laura Little House books and so does my mom. She read all of them to me when I was 6 and I am rereading them now at age 10. I belive the best part I like about them is when when she lived under ground in the book By the Banks of Pumb Creek. I belive everyone should read these books.

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved these as a child and appreciate them as an adult, October 31, 1999

This review is from: Laura's Early Years Collection: Little House in the Big Woods/Little House on the Prairie/on the Banks of Plum Creek (Paperback)
I recently re-read the entire Little House series. I remember watching the television series as I read the books the first time. I see things differently now, obviously as an adult. The hardships the pioneers endured to live as they wanted. We get upset if the electricity goes off for a few hours. The sheer struggle of life that these books portray touched me. I also admire Laura Ingalls Wilder for her memory. She wrote these books while in her sixties and seventies. I can hardly remember what I did last week. I will encourage my son to read these when he is old enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, sweet story of a family long ago., September 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Laura's Early Years Collection: Little House in the Big Woods/Little House on the Prairie/on the Banks of Plum Creek (Paperback)
As with all the Laura Ingalls Wilder stories, the deep love and rich feeling Laura herself felt and lived jumps comes across as a real, physical thing. I read one of these stories as a child. I remember liking it but I went back and read them recently as a mother. It gave me both a clear, real view of pioneer life. With both the hardships as well as the joys. As through all of the Little House stories, Laura's love and feeling for her family jumps from the pages. I could only wish that all books I read were so true and real.

my mom bought me the whole series of little house books for me, in Chinese, when I was 10. I have been looking all over for them since I moved to America 5 years ago since I didn't know the English title. I am 28 now and it's the book that I can read again and again no matter how old I am. I can taste the woods, the mapple syrup, the Christmas, whatever in the book, I can really feel it. It's the best! Recommond it to kids "and" adults-see the world with children's eyes, every one!

5.0 out of 5 stars My, how American life has changed, January 24, 2003
By
This review is from: Laura's Early Years Collection: Little House in the Big Woods/Little House on the Prairie/on the Banks of Plum Creek (Paperback)

"Little House in the Big Woods" is a perfect way to educate your children about pioneering in the United States. Growing up in the woods of antebellum Wisconsin, Ingalls recalls the details, both big and small, of settler life. The world is much different today than it was back then, and this book displays that perfectly. The Ingalls' were very self-sufficient people, and had to care for each other in a way that shows how families back then were self-reliant teams, instead of groups of people who see each other for 15 minutes while they have breakfast, an hour after dinner, and then on the weekends.

This book teaches kids how people who are poor in wealth can be rich in life. The Ingalls' had no servants and no silk sheets. Luxury was hard candy on Christmas. Hiking into town was tempting fate. Laura's favorite plaything was a corn-husk doll. The Ingalls had to make use of every scrap of food and every 1/2 cent they had! At the same time, they were reverant, intelligent, and caring people.

This book is an unbeatable read for kids, and still enjoyable for adults, as well.

I would suggest that everbody reads this book because it was
interesting. It tells how people had to live in the old days. Also
it shows the cultures of the way people lived. But one thing about
it was that some people didn't like the ways. Also I think you
should read this book because it shows ways of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adventurous Pioneer Girl!, December 18, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Laura's Early Years Collection: Little House in the Big Woods/Little House on the Prairie/on the Banks of Plum Creek (Paperback)
Laura Ingalls Wilder is an amazing, adventurous pioneer girl. She grew up in the big woods in Wisconsin. She went from the prairie to Plum Creek. Laura has a mother, father and three sisters named Mary, Carrie and Grace. Laura also had a dog named Jack. On the banks of Plum Creek, Laura moved into a sod house. When Laura or her sisters played outside, they might see a cow standing on their sod house. A sod house is mainly made of mud. Over the mud layers laied a nice layer of grass. My favorite part about this book is when Laura invites a mean girl from her class to her house, and then Laura took her down the creek and splashed an insect on her. Laura grew up to be an amazing author. She died in the 1960's. I like to read about people who were pioneers and lived in the 18-1900's.
