Great guitar recital by Fostier!,
This review is from: Laureate Series: Johan Fostier Guitar Recital (Audio CD)
Johan Fostier is a young guitarist from Belgium. He has attended master classes with Manuel Barrueco and David Russell. Notably, Fostier won first prize at the 2001 Guitar Foundation of America Competition, which led to this recording as part of the Naxos Laureate Series for Guitar. This program includes works specifically written for guitar by Ponce, Asencio and Castenuovo-Tedesco. Fostier's guitar recital was recorded at the St. John Chrysoston Church in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. The recording was produced by renowned Canadian classical guitarist Norbert Kraft and Bonnie Silver. Johan Fostier plays a beautiful 12 string guitar made by luthier George Lowden. This is a lovely collection of music, very beautifully played by Fostier. And it sounds great. However, the recording is on the quiet side, perhaps owing to Kraft's engineering technique, so you will need to crank it up. A word of advice, don't put this recording in your CD changer with a recent David Russell recording to follow. With the levels up much higher on Russell's recordings, you're liaible to blow your head off when the Russell work starts :)
