BEWARE OF THIS POORLY DONE DVD RELEASE!!!!!
a) The films recorded on the DVD are NOT the ones listed on the case back or the above description. The below review from another buyer must have based his review on the back cover, the copy I got from Amazon did not have those titles recorded on the disc. b) This DVD is very poor quality VHS mastering. The picture is even slightly letterboxed! HERE IS WHAT IS REALLY ON THE DVD: (ALL POOR COPIES!!!!) 1) HUSTLING FOR HEALTH - with Stan Laurel - Buy the LOST FILMS OF LAUREL & HARDY volume 1, it is restored from 35mm. 2) PAPERHANGER'S HELPER (Cut down title for STICK AROUND) - with Oliver Hardy & Bobby Ray - Buy the KINO "OLIVER HARDY COLLECTION", it has the complete film mastered from 35mm! 3) LUCKY DOG (EXCERPT) - Stan Laurel's first encounter with Oliver Hardy - Buy the "LOST FILMS OF LAUREL & HARDY volume 4", that version is complete & restored from 35mm. 4) THE SOILERS - Stan Laurel & Jimmy Finlayson - Buy either the "LOST FILMS OF LAUREL & HARDY volume 6" or the KINO "STAN LAUREL COLLECTION", both are restored from 35mm. 5) ROUGHEST AFRICA - Stan Laurel - Buy either the "LOST FILMS OF LAUREL & HARDY volume 2" or the KINO "STAN LAUREL COLLECTION", both are restored from 35mm. However, BEWARE OF THE SUICIDAL ELEPHANT JOKE! It could bother some. You will definitely kick yourself if you buy this OVERPRICED piece of JUNK. I returned it to Amazon.com who refused a full refund since I opened it. How else could I know it has the wrong films?

[...] First, the actual movies are not what is on the DVD cover. The actual movies are: Hustling for health; Paperhangers Helper; Lucky dog; The Soilers; Roughest Africa. All of these are on the "lost films" series, so if you have those you waste your money buying these (as I did)!!
Second, the quality of the transfer is poor. I suspect the makers, "borrowed" these from the source of the "Lost" series and put them on one disk at a low bit rate, so the quality is worse then the "lost" series, which are are about the best you can get, other than the Universal release in Europe (not available here). If you care about the "Boys" don't buy this drek!!

This set consists of 5 silent shorts, none of which includes both Laurel & Hardy. The titles are: "The Home Wrecker" (1924) British title for "Smithy" with Laurel; "The Four Wheeled Terror" (1924) British title for "Kid Speed" with Hardy; "Roughest Africa" (1923) with Laurel; "Crazy To Act" (1927)with Hardy; "The Paper Hanger's Helper" (1925) with Hardy. They are good films, definitely worth buying at this price.

I wanted a very big collection of Laurel and Hardy at a fair price. All the ones I saw on Amazon were mostly single cd collections of random shorts and movies. There was one big collection but it was only available in a European format. I looked around and found a site called Goldenagetvshows. They had a 20 disc collection for 60 bucks, four volumes of 5 discs each. The drawback for me was the first volume is all silent, but the other fifteen discs have every short and movie I ever knew about or saw and the video quality seems very good to me. Now I don't have to keep shopping around, educating myself on which ones I don't have, disappointed because I don't have one I remember but don't know the name. I'm totally happy with it. I'm just sticking this review in here for someone like me. I read a lot of user reviews on Amazon before I gave up. Tit for tat? Got it. One good turn? Got it. You name it and I think I've got it now in a nice copy. A fine mess indeed! PS, I have no connection to that web site. Read my other reviews. I'm just a guy.

This DVD was supposed to have"The Home Wrecker","The Four Wheeled Terror", Roughest Africa", "Crazy to Act," and "the Paper Hangers Helper"on it. Those were listed in your catalog and on the box. When played only "Roughest Africa"of the listed movies is there, along with "Hustling for Health," "Paper Hangers", Lucky Dog",and "The Soilers" which weren't in your listing and are not on the box. The other two Laurel and Hardy DVDs purchased at the same time would be rated as 5 star and are completely as listed.

I bought these for our young boys as a bit of comedy history and they didn`t stop laughing - particularly over Stan Laurel - not really for adults though unless you are nostalgic. Great stuff.
