Unlike some of the other reviews, I actually read this book. I don't write reviews based on whether or not I like the author. I read all 3 of the LA Candy books. They were a fun quick read. I'm not going to compare her books to other books I've read because I like to read different books depending on my mood. The Fame Game is simular to the LA Candy books. It was a quick read and I enjoyed the story. If I liked the book, I give it 5 stars. I'm not going to over analyze her writing skills like some other reviews. I'm not going to act like some sophisticated reader who has something to prove by criticizing every little issue wrong with her writing. It's not that type of book. So, if you want to read a fun, quick story then it's a good book.

I was skeptical at first when I bought this book but now that I've started reading it, I'm glad I bought it. I love Lauren Conrad from The Hills and I love her style. This book is all about clothing basics, make up basics, and accessories basics with lots of helpful hints (like "How to pack for a weekend getaway," "What to wear on a date or to an interview," and "How to sew a quick hem"). I am the same age as Lauren, working on building my adult wardrobe, and I want to do it stylishly. My only complaint is that the bulk of the recommended clothing examples (about 95%, I'd say) are all designer brands that I will probably never be able to afford. I wish she would have put in where to find cheaper - but quality - versions of the designer brands.

Even though I got this book for my 16 yr. old daughter, I read it cover to cover and enjoyed it. Not sure there is tons of "new" information, but if you love Lauren's style, this book will help you pull it off. Great makeup tips, and she shows how to mix expensive pieces with less expensive pieces of clothing for a unique look. She dresses tastefully and beautifully, always age appropriate...I would love for my daughter to give her wardrobe and "look" such thought.

The photography is beautiful and top-notch. You really see the clothes and styles up close without a lot of other stuff to take away from what she's trying to convey. Great book...worth the price for sure!

I was bored on my flight to New York City and decided to give in and pay $12 or $8. It continues on from the LA candy books and lets you see a different side of Madison. Of course there are new characters and add to the story line... season 2. I can't wait for the new book in October!

First Sentence: Madison Parker had made Trevor Lord come to /her/ this time.

How I Acquired the Book: Borrowed from my town's library.

The Review: There are some books I read only because they reach no. 1 or whatever number on the bestsellers list, and I read them because I want to see what brought them there. L.A. Candy was one of those books, and so is The Fame Game. As soon as I started L.A. Candy, it became clear to me that this was a bestseller only because of its author, and certainly not because of its writing. The same goes for The Fame Game.

The Fame Game is a spin-off series off of L.A. Candy. Instead of Jane being in the spotlight this time, we get to see Madison be the star. This didn't seem that interesting of a concept at first, but then I began to get interested. Madison was, by far, the most interesting character in the L.A. Candy series. Jane was boring as heck. So, I thought, even though it's still about reality TV (which I do not enjoy), since the boring character is out and a cool character is in, this should be much better than L.A. Candy.

Well, it was better than L.A. Candy, but not by much. The characters, as I predicted, were very interesting and three-dimensional. Madison was the type of character you want to kill one minute, then the next, you feel so bad for her. The two new characters were a lot more interesting than Jane and Scarlett, and I liked them. The 2.5 stars this book deserves is all because of the characters.

Because the plot just doesn't work at all. Some parts were ridiculously overdrawn and boring, and I found myself thinking, "Fame Game? Ugh, maybe a better name for this book would be Brain Pain." It doesn't flow well; the majority of the book is a buildup to a climax completely unrelated to the buildup.

First Impressions: I'll admit that I'm not a huge fan of reality T.V. I've never watched The Hills or any of that stuff. I think I watched Jersey Shore one time, and once was more than enough. However, this isn't a reality show, so I'll judge the book by its own merits. I've read other books written by Lauren Conrad and they are all fun and well-written. I especially like the cover of this one since it makes me want a lollipop really bad.

First 50 Pages: As far as entertainment value goes, this book has a lot of perks. Sort of like say, reading a reality show in book form. More than once I wondered how much of the story did Lauren pull from her own life. With that being said, if I hadn't of received this book for review, I probably would never have bought it myself. It's just not my type of thing and I wasn't super crazy in love with Lauren's other books to go and rush to pick up this book. I could tell right away that I was going to have some issues with The Fame Game, but I do have to say that Lauren's writing has improved enormously in this novel.

Characters & Plot: This is a story about Madison Parker, who is a character that some people will know is in Lauren's other book series, L.A. Candy. Madison is given the opportunity to be on a new reality-based television show called The Fame Game. There are three other girls who will also be competing for their spot in Hollywood, named Kate, Carmen and Gaby. Four women in one household does not sound like a fun or pleasant time to me, but Madison is willing to do whatever she has to in order to rise to the top of the social ladder.

Needless to say, it was drama everywhere you looked. All of the characters, with the exception of Kate, were pretty much as horrible as they come.
