"Lauren is one of the few car people that I trust. She has done it all....wrenching, modifying, building, driving street and race cars. Being a hard charging racer on the track has enabled her to teach others advanced competitive driving techniques (I met Lauren at one of her driving schools). Moreover she has leveraged her vast experience into life changing presentations, motivating others to be all they can be. Lauren walks the talk."                                                                                        --Louis Betstadt, CFP, Senior Financial Advisor and Amateur Racer

Lauren's spent a life around cars and it shows in the book. She translates and educates about cars and car ownership but does it in a simple and straightforward way rarely seen anywhere else. The book is a very easy read (funny too) with great pictures and tips and made for just about any Car-IQ. Great resource; must-read for a new driver -- may inspire a lifetime of loving cars though...

I first learned of this book a few years ago on a morning talk show. Yes, I'm a guy, but know very little about cars (just not my thing), and thought this would be a good book to have since it was targeted to an audience (yes, mainly women) that really weren't that knowledgeable about cars. Thought perhaps I could pick up on a few things my dad had always tried to teach me! NOPE.

I finally ordered since I found it for next to nothing & it arrived today. I was actually excited to flip thru it & see what I could learn...thinking it would be an easy-to-understand, "relatable" sort of tone. THIS BOOK SHOULD BE MARKETED AS A DRIVERS ED COMPANION. It's full of THE MOST BASIC "drivers ed" type information. I was shocked. There's nothing about CARS (ie: HOW TO change oil, HOW TO check for fill-in-the-blank, HOW TO whatever else you could think of, especially in the line of maintenance.

There's an entire chapter dedicated to "What if" scenarios, most of which you should ALREADY KNOW before you ever drive in the first place (again, drivers ed info). "What if........"
-- I have a traffic accident?
-- I witness an accident?
-- My car catches on fire?
-- My gas pedal sticks while I'm driving?
-- I have to drive in extremely heavy traffic? (honestly?!)
-- and many many more of these ridiculous "what if's."

It also covers BASIC topics like:
-- Selecting your car
-- Paying for the car you buy
--Choosing the right insurance (including "can speeding tickets affect my rates" and "will having a child in college affect my rates?"

If you haven't figured out already, this book is insane. It's only suitable for a 14 year old drivers ed student or similar person. And if you STILL feel compelled to buy this, save yourself the money & ONLY buy it if you can find it practically free!! Just ridiculous.

This book has pretty much targeted a market of pretty ditzy people.
Some of it is so simple as to be slightly insulting.
If you are really young and don't know a thing about cars.......maybe you could benefit from this book.
Otherwise common sense would prevail and save you the cost of this book.

A few nuggets could be gleaned from this book but not enough to satisfy a frugal book buyer.
