the lauren guitars are knowed to be really good, and that's why i bought this one. i thought i was getting a good deal online, since my local store had a lauren guitar (a solid, natural color one) for the same price, but it didnt come with a gig bag. Well, when i got it, it wasnt wraped or boxed well at all.. no pading or anything! i took a peek to makesure nothing was damaged, and it loked o.k. so i left it in the box till xmas (for about three weeks). well, apperently it was damaged! the inside of the bridge (forgot what its called) was damaged, and my local music shop said it would cost more to fix, than to buy a new one! that just pist me off! i didnt know i was supposed to fill out a warrenty card with in a few days of purchase, either.. so now its not covered under warrenty! everytime it plays, it has a bussing sound comeing from the G string, thanks to the part that's broken! i recomend buying it at a local music shop, and not risk the poor shipping! plus, if u buy it at a music shop, they usually warenty their merchandise!

I did a lot of looking around and settled in on this guitar for my daughter this Christmas. Seems my research payed off as this came quickly and as advertised and most importantly my daughter loved it. I was worried about the quality from reading reviews on other sites with guitars for this age and price range but the quality is excellent. If your looking for a great guitar for your little one and you don't want to break the bank, look no more, this is the one that you want.

Quality: The paint used on the guitar has pock-marks like it didn't adhere properly to the wood. The "binding" was carelessly drawn on with a sharpie pen. The frets look like they were retrieved from a junkyard - very uneven. The tuners are cheap but surpringly they don't rattle and seem to hold the strings well. The 1/2-size Dean Playmate JTJ guitars are also junky, but they are marginally better than this (and they cost less! But my daughter had to have red, so ... )

HOW TO GET GOOD SOUND, Tip #1: Do not tune this guitar to standard EADGBE tuning. Intonation is absolutely dreadful - the guitar will be in tune in the middle of the neck but out of tune everywhere else. Follow the hint you will find in the Dean JTJ guitar reviews: tune up a step and a half to G (G C F A# D G) or even A. The guitar will be higher pitched, but surprisingly it will be in tune!

HOW TO GET GOOD SOUND, Tip #2: Adults, when you play this guitar, do not put too much pressure on the strings when you fret them. Use a VERY light touch, just enough to make a clean sound. Press any more than that and you will sharp the notes! Small children shouldn't have much trouble with this as they will likely have a light touch anyway.

Bottom line: It's a $40 guitar. What do you expect? If you don't need red (or metallic, or black), get the Dean JTJ instead. Otherwise, this makes a fun little toy for a very young child (ages 3 to 8 can probably handle it adequately.)
