This is great lamp... Received mine from "Lamps Plus" via Amazon.com and the package came in perfect condition with plenty of cushion to get it to my home safely... This one has nice contrasting colors that give off a nice glow to the room without really adding much light... Great, fun light!!!

I've had this color and base for over 5 years and I love it. Once the wax warms up enough to rise, it captures your attention whenever you walk into the room. It's a lovely natural blue/green combination but bright and cheerful.

The frequent bulb replacements (about once every 2 months) are annoying but worth the effect. My only complaint is that the wax has lost weight over the years (whereas I have done the opposite) and now it floats at the top.

This is my first real lava lamp, and I must say that it has captured my attention and my imagination. Sure, it takes about an hour to warm up to a unique display--as others have mentioned; however, I find THAT aspect very comforting in today's fast-paced, too immediate, too loud, too impatient, too now-oriented society. The Lava lamp moves with its own motion and mood. Its purpose is to calm and to relax a person; it is the perfect companion for some soft music and NO TV.

I love the colors of this product. They are very soothing. When the lava really starts moving, mingling, the lamp has a beautiful, unearthly quality about it. I tend to watch each blob with interest and forget the day's troubles.

Slow down and enjoy the blobs...

Mine did nothing when I first got it. The blue blob just sat at the bottom of the bottle. I shook it once and turned the light off for an hour. After an hour - I switched it back on again and was rewarded with the COOLEST show of liquid motion ever! At first the wax stretched towards the top of the glass and after two hours...the neat little balls started forming.

I am hooked on this little relaxation device now. I could stare at those globules stretching, twisting, balling-up and colliding with each other ALL DAY now! Its really more soothing than a fish tank, and works PERFECT with relaxing music. It is a great conversation piece and therapeutic...all wrapped up in one cool, retro looking lamp!

I suggest hooking a timer to it and scheduling it to work while you sleep. The lamp seems to work much better when it cycles between OFF/ON periodically. The lamp MUST cool down every 6-8 hours...or else you'll see nothing but a lazy, round blob sitting at the bottom of the glass. Don't buy it for the illumination...get it because it definitely will UNSTRESS YOU.

I put this on a timer in my kids' room (ages 9, 7 and 5). It turns on a couple of hours before bedtime (to get warmed up and start flowing) and turns off a couple of hours after they drift off). It is relaxing to watch and provides some light without being harsh. My kids know not to play with or touch the lamp, otherwise I wouldn't be comfortable using it this way (as a nightlight of sorts).

I bought this lava lamp to spice up my hotel room while on an extended work trip. Iv'e had it about one month and been quite disappointed. I've only had one other lamp to compare it to, but I liked the first one much better. Like my first lamp, it was slow to get going once turned on. I expected this. But it almost never gets its lava action on. If the wax ever does melt it tends to stay at the bottom of the lamp in one lump, not ever moving. The ambient temp in the room has an obvious effect, but even when I turn the room AC off, it takes for ever to get going. Once it does it's just one big lump at the top of the lamp. I turn the AC back on and I have a 5 minute window of very unlava type action ( as compared to my old lamp ) before settling back to the bottom. Very sad.
I'm hoping when I get home and the AC isn't as in your face as the hotel room I'll have better luck. But from what I've seen even when the lamp has some action it just not as cool as my old lamp.

Bought it for my granddaughter for Christmas, she has had it 4 1/2 months and she uses it as a night light every night, but it will NOT move the oil around any more, NOT a happy camper !

I purchased this lava lamp as a gift for my boyfriend, who had always wanted one. I read many reviews and this seemed to be the highest rated one. It has a really nice great glow to it. It works very well.

Our first lamp from this company did not work, it just sat as a blob in the bottom. However, the company, Lamps Plus sent a new one that works great. You MUST put these lamps on a timer or they will over-heat or not be warmed up in time for bed. My 8 year loves his lamp in his room as he goes to sleep.

It's not a great color combo hence the reason they probably put it on sale. It's pretty murky and doesn't throw much light.
