I have this lava lamp and an original one. I have to say I like this one way better. The original lamp took well over an hour to heat up enough for the 'lava' to start moving, this only takes a matter of minutes. I use this as a night light and it's the perfect amount of light, not to dim, not too bright. Also in a dark room the movement of the blue and silver glitter gives it the look of reflecting water on the ceiling and walls. It creates a very hypnotic feel and I actually find myself falling esleep faster since I've had it, which is a very nice surprise. Like all lava lamps it does get warm after being turned on for a while and such would not recommend for younger children unless it was out of their reach or they are old enough to understand not to touch hot items. I am very happy with this item and am very glad I got it. I know someone mentioned having a hard time finding a replacement bulb for this lamp, you can buy the replacement right here on amazon, the 25 watt S11. I just typed it 'lava lamp bulb' and it was the first one listed.

Perfect ! Love the glitter type! The wax type Lava Lamps eventually stop floating around, the wax just stays at the bottom. The glitter lamps last a VERY long time and this is very pretty. The glass gets very warm, so I would not recommend for any kids rooms under the age of 12.
This lamp is very cool to look at !

My 3 and 5 year old love this as a night light in there room. It works best on a timer so it does not get to hot. Makes great sparkle designs on their ceiling.

My wife laughed at me when I told her I'd ordered a lava light for the basement. She made dorm-room jokes, called me a stoner, and thought i was wasting money. I put it up and she admitted it looked nice and added some motion to the basement. What can I say? It's a glitter lamp that has a nice aquarium like shadow. It sits on a beer fridge next to a neon light, so yeah...it's a bit dormesque, but who cares? Now I just need to find some cool black-light posters...

I seem to like the glitter lamps more than the lava lamps. They are great for a night light or a low powered light for a bedroom. This lamp is very "cool".

We got this for our 7 year old son for Christmas to use as a nightlight in his room (we turn it off after a couple hours once he falls asleep.) He just loves it. The glitter swirls better than a traditional lava lamp, and casts a very cool glow in his room. I would have given it 5 stars, but we had to replace the original lightbulb after approx. one month. The little lights are difficult to find (we had to go to a specialty lighting store to find the right size.) It may have just been a faulty bulb because once we replaced it, we haven't had any more problems with the lamp. I recommend this lamp.

My lava lamp just came in the mail yesterday and it looks absolutely amazing. I bought it because I just moved into a new house and my room window faces the side of the house and there's no light there so my room is completely pitch black when I turn off the lights at bedtime and I'm not particularly fond of complete darkness so I thought this would be a good solution. And it was! As one reviewer stated, when the lamp is in a dark room it makes really cool patterns on the wall that make it look like your underwater. My only problem was that the lamp base and the glass thing with liquid in it are not connected, it just kinda sits in the base, that kinda worried me because I'm a bit of a clummsy person and I have kids but the glass thing is a bit heavy so hopefully it'll be ok. But even with that small issue its still an amazing lamp, especially for the price.

This light is perfect - kids have it in their room as a night light. Very calming to watch. I does get hot, so if it's for younger children you must be careful.

Looks great... but mine started to turn purple after about a year, so it does have a limit to its life.

I need a new one! get more in stock soon!

This is a neat little lamp. Well,..it's really not that little but just right for my entertainment center. I have this placed on top of my stereo system and love the way the blue shows up on my walls. Of course it has to heat up to fully be in motion but that's the least. This is a great buy and I even purchased a pink one for my Godchild and she loves it. Go for it at this price. It's a nice accent and conversation peice. Shipping was fast and it was well protected. It doesn't get that hot in my opinion and you can touch it without burning yourself. I'd do it all over again.
