Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Lava Computer Parallel-PCI PCI Bus Enhanced Parallel Board, when it came to market, was the first PCI-bus parallel port board in the world. It is fully PCI compliant and takes advantage of the speed and easy configuration of the PCI bus. When it appeared, it almost tripled the speed benchmarks of ISA-bus parallel port cards, as well as offered greater flexibility of configuration. Users were no longer restricted to the three standard parallel port addresses: the Parallel-PCI would automatically select a free address and IRQ during installation, virtually eliminating user error and resource conflicts.

The Parallel-PCI's strength lies in its Moko S-1 ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit). This chip consolidates a number of separate components into one chip, and is only available on Lava products. This adds efficiency in manufacture, and more importantly, virtually eliminates any possibility of component failure. It is up to three times faster than standard ISA or motherboard EPP ports and supports transfer rates of up to 4.5 MB per second.

Initially, this break-through Lava-designed integrated circuit was developed for the Parallel-PCI. The Moko S-1 has been since incorporated into a number of other Lava I/O products and is an ideal interface for parallel port devices, such as scanners, laser printers and external CD drives. Lava also provides a lifetime warranty.

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not support legacy port addresses in XP/2000!, March 2, 2007

BEWARE! Does not support legacy port addressing (278h, 378H, etc.) in Windows XP/2000 even though they claim to in the product description. Once you open the box and read the manual you'll find this, in the release notes- "In standard installations of Windows 2000/XP, the I/O address cannot be changed to a legacy address."

Appears to be marketed under several names, you can recognize it by the claim to support legacy port addresses, and "Up to 3x FASTER than standard ISA or motherboard EPP ports"

1.0 out of 5 stars No Legacy Port Setting, But Advertized As Such, October 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LAVA COMPUTER Parallel-PCI (Personal Computers)
Card installs under Windows XP but won't allow ports to be changed to x278 or x378 as advertized. Consequently, won't work with ANY of my security dongles (Sentinel, GlobeTrotter, FlexID, SafeNet). Kinda of a rip-off, in that this card is MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE than other cards of this type and won't perform in legacy mode as stated. If you just need an LPT3 port at a PCI address, like xE800, then buy a cheaper card, there are many for under $10 that work as good as this one.
