5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY! The LAVA SPLASH Riddim is here!, January 13, 2006
This review is from: Lava Splash (Audio CD)
I first heard the songs from this riddim on Sirius Satellite Radio. DJ Gringo compiled a mix from this and the Drop Leaf Riddim (that features songs using Maxi Priest's "I Believe" melody) entitled "Fire Mix - Stateside Revolution".

Ever since the summer of 2005, I kept writing emails to him asking who the various artists were that made up this mix, but he never replied (shame on you!). Despite that, I kept my Sirius subscription and did my own investigating.

I found that these songs were part of the Lava Ground Riddim, songs using I.Wayne's "Lava Ground" melody, but that they weren't easily available across the U.S. But now they are all here on the disk "Lava Splash"!

(not to be confused with I.Wayne's own cd named "Lava Ground", where the melody for all the songs of this Riddim come from)

For those of you who don't know, "Riddims" are a collection of songs that have the same melody, but each song is performed by a different artist with his/her own unique interpretation/mix of the melody. And with their own lyrics added to each, you'll feel like you're listening to 15 different songs!

On this Lava Splash Riddim, I absolutely fell in love with Queen I-frica's "Randy", which is a very striking take on the O'Jays' "Brandy (I Really Miss You)"...the power of her voice and the pain that she conveys makes you stop what you're doing to listen to her every word. Same with Bascom X's "Just Once", with the plea for all of us to live as one. There is no way you can listen to this music, or Reggae music in general, without feeling compelled to take a good, hard look at the world around you. For this isn't generic pap that your dinosaur FM radio station tries to shove down your throat...this is music that means something.

Richie Spice's "I Got You" and "These Lines" by Christini are also stellar picks. But trust me: every cut on this Riddim is strong, and this cd can take it's place right up there with the Buy Out Riddim (Sean Paul's "Like Glue" melody) and the Drop Leaf Riddim. BIG UP's to the Patrick "Mr. Z" Henry and Nigel Burell of the Loyal Soldiers for producing this 5-star Riddim!

And to DJ Gringo: Dude, answer your email next time!
