Lavell Crawford: Can a Brother Get Some Love?

I saw this show in St. Louis and it was fantastic. Crawford is funny all around and tells great stories. Recommended!

I understand that comedy is subjective. Along with music, it is one of the harder categories of entertainment to judge because, oftentimes, it just comes down to a matter of taste. But comedy DVDs have an additional stigma that other DVD choices don't face. They have less replay value. If you are a fan of a particular comedian and you follow them, you have to expect that you will hear some material that they've used successfully in the past. The most common complaint I see leveled at comedy DVDs are that the jokes aren't fresh. That's right, folks--every time a comedian steps up to the stage, his entire act isn't going to be newly devised and original. And if you were going to tape a show for the general public to buy, wouldn't you use jokes and material that have proven popular and successful? I would!

That said, I'm a fan of Lavell Crawford. I knew what to expect going in--and while I think the man is generally hilarious, this concert was wildly uneven for my taste. I am undoubtedly in the minority--his St. Louis audience embraced the act wholeheartedly. Crawford is undeniably successful when spinning a yarn about his family or upbringing. When he talks about his mother and a simple trip to the grocery store, the routine soared with its simplicity and Crawford's spot-on impersonation. Other targets were a bit too expected. The mere mention of homosexuality is the ultimate punchline that recurs through the concert piece which seems somewhat unimaginative in this day and age. I don't ask for political correctness, I just look for something more creative from Crawford's humor. I had seem some of the routine in other incarnations--but it all fits together nicely here. A solid showcase for Crawford if not the best I've seen of him. About 3 1/2 stars. KGHarris, 8/11.

I LOVE LAVELL CRAWFORD, HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND SOME OF THE STORIES HE TOLD WERE LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY. THIS IS A KEEPER.

This DVD starts off a little slow but picks up quickly. Lavell will have you in tears. Don't let his size shock you, this man has talent. He is so comical he laughs at his own self. A non-stop stand up comedian. You won't be disappointed.

I love Lavell Crawford since Comicview. He is a very underrated comedian to me and should definitely be more known that what he is. He always has me cryin' laughin'!! A must see DVD :-)

Soooooo funny, Lavell really did his thing on this one. He holds the crown right now of the funniest stand ups i've watched lately.

My favorite comedian of ALL time. I love stand up comedy. Been a fan since I was 7 and watching Eddie Murphy's RAW. Ever since then, I loved watching stand up. In all that time, I have to say that there have been only one comedian that has made me laugh so hard that I had to stand up and hunch over: Lavelle Crawford. Time and time again, this funny man has done it to me. I don't know what it is, but he is just the best.

This video is so funny I had to pause it several times until I stopped laughing. I enjoyed it so much I recently had to go see him live. Trust me this video will not disappoint

I watched this while on vacation and was laughing so loud and hard, the people in the rooms next to me were probably what I was watching. He's soooo funny.

I was there at the taping of this show. It was non-stop laughter for me. I laughed from the beginning to the end. All in all it was a fantastic show. I highly recommend this to everyone!
