This book is very philosophical in nature. Silence plays a huge role which allows for the reader's reflection, making it a personal journey not just for the main character, Samba Diallo, but also for the reader. It depicts Samba's struggle in his attempt to balance his past and his beliefs with his future and the modernity that comes with it.
