5.0 out of 5 stars Destined to Be Trusted, December 6, 2008
This review is from: The Law of Desire (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Minerva Athena Jones had her life somewhat planned out, at least the education part. Nowhere in her future did she envision something devastating happening on the day she was to celebrate her graduating from college, with her brother. The situation was so grim her brother's closest friend, David Sims, encouraged her to leave California and lay low in New Jersey, with his cousins, until things returned to normal. What Minerva did not plan for was being under the watchful eye of Detective Lawrence Hightower. In The Law of Desire by Gwyneth Bolton, you will see what happens when you put a smart and sassy woman together with a head strong, follow the law to the tee, detective.

Minerva grew up under the watchful eye of her big brother, Calvin. Because of him she never knew what it was like to be in love. The problems that sent her running to New Jersey may be the new reason why she does not know what love feels like if Detective Hightower cannot figure out who is after her and why. Can Minerva and Lawrence learn to trust each other in order to keep her alive?

The Law of Desire was my first time reading anything written by Gwyneth Bolton. I could kick myself now for waiting this long. Ms. Bolton is a great storyteller. The characters were so believable and likeable. The editing needed some polishing, but it was not anything major to take away from the heightened suspense and tension between Minerva and Lawrence. I recommend The Law of Desire to readers of romance and to anyone wanting to try an author they have seen on the shelf but were reluctant to buy a copy of her book.

This is another great book about the handsome Hightower males. This one is about Lawrence Hightower and it is a great read! If you have not read her former books about this group of fine men, you have missed out! I again wanted to beat down their Aunt Sophie for her meddling ways and I can't wait until that heifer gets hers for meddling.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Allure of the Hightower Men Continues..., December 27, 2008
This review is from: The Law of Desire (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
The allure of the Hightower men continues and Lawrence may be the best catch yet. Lawrence is a decorated narcotic detective protecting the streets of Paterson, N.J. One night while off duty, he notices the McKnight twins - a well known drug dealing duo. As he stops to make his presence known, he notices this young hip hop chick with them. She is introduced as Minnie. He notices something about her that doesn't fit but he would have to work hard to uncover her deep dark secrets.

Minnie is the nickname she has always hated but she had to suck it up for now because someone was after her. It was only a week ago that she walked in on her brothers murder and has been on the run ever since. She hopped on the first bus leaving California and didn't get off until she made it to New Jersey. The McKnight's were like old family and promised to take care of her. Meeting Detective Hightower was strange because his presence made her body tingle. Over the next few weeks it seemed as if he was following her, damn near stalking her trying to find out if she was running drugs. Until the day his nuisance turned to chivalry when he saved her life.

Bolton has written another noteworthy romance. The love scenes are steamy and the descriptions are borderline erotic. The beginning of this romance is a bit hard core with murder, lies and deception against the background of an innocent Minerva seemingly to naïve to notice the truth. Even with this big leap the story evolves and the true romance takes over. The budding relationship will warm your heart and keep you reading to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Keeps On Getting Better!, December 19, 2008
This review is from: The Law of Desire (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Law of Desire is the third book in the Hightower Series. Ms. Bolton does not disappoint her readers as she tells Lawerence and Minerva's story. I experienced a gamut of emotions as I found myself immersed in their story. Detective Hightower is determined to prove Minerva is guilty of a crime she did not commit. Although, Minerva is aware of the sexy detective's lack of trust in her, she finds herself helplessly falling in love with him.

As Minerva's mysterious past unfolds, Lawrence is drawn to the petite beauty. As he discovers she's been telling the truth all along, he's in jeopardy of losing the only woman he's ever loved.

If you're looking for a fantastic and satisfying read full of passion and love, The Law Of Desire is for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Trust and Serve, November 23, 2008

Another great book from the Hightower Series. I've read each of the books and I must say this one is my favorite (all 3 are great). I liked that Minerva was vunerable but tough at the same time. This story was a little more gritty and made the story more believable. Lawerence and Minerva was good for each other. This story is about Minerva running from her past and trying to understand why everyone she has loved turns up dead. Lawerence is a cop and he is dead set on finding out the truth about why she's hiding while trying not to fall in love. The tension between these two is so thick you can feel in between the pages. I love that Minerva holds her own and Lawerence makes you want to go out and fall in love with a cop.

The charcters you love from the previous two books make appearances and remind me why I love this series. This book was well written and it was an easy 4-5 hour read.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOT!!!, November 19, 2008
This review is from: The Law of Desire (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed the other Hightower men stories but this was the best hands down. Lawrence and Minerva are something else. They will have you laughing, crying, and sighing! I couldn't put it down. I have enjoyed all of Gwyneth's books but this was definitely one of her best. A Must Read!!!

From the very first book in this series "Protect and Serve", I have been enthralled by the characters in these books. I have come to think they are real and have shared all the emotions that Ms. Bolton intended. I have laughed, cried and wanted to slap Aunt Sophie a few times to stop her meddling, malicious ways. And then I discovered that Aunt Sophie has a big secret and just wants a little love. I hope we get a chance to see her character develop and that she finds love and make amends to her family

I love the Hightower Series. I recommend on first read To Be sure to get a Sample first. Then read the inside cover since these are a series probably best to read these In Order.

This one was more of the urban drama chick edition. But even in Afr. Am. lives we deal with what could be described as multi-cultural/multi-classed even within our own ethnic race. So, even this urban chick drama with the Hightower men didn't sway me from loving this book and the series: Love, Lust, Men of Honor and lots of drama. You can't lose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling hot novel for a sizzling hot summer!, July 24, 2011
This review is from: The Law of Desire (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I wanted to take a break from the academic reading I engage all year long and treat myself to a story that made me laugh and cry, but mostly laugh. I looked forward to relaxing on the beach to a romance novel with interesting and well-developed characters that I cared about. That's what I got in a book when I read The Law of Desire by Gwyneth Bolton.

This novel is sizzling hot, with sizzling hot characters who I was definitely rooting for by the end. Their passion for each other made me continue reading long after I should have put the book down and fallen asleep. I appreciated Bolton's ability to create suspense in such a way that I had to read until the book was completed.

The main characters, Minerva and Lawrence had chemistry from the start, and I immediately and eagerly awaited the moment they got together. Minerva is a sassy, smart, hard-working, working-class young woman with dreams and goals that could have been forgotten by her tragic family and impoverished upbringing, or even by the sexy cop that she has the hots for. But, she is a woman of perseverance. She is the type of character that I can personally identify with in some ways, and in other ways, I see her qualities in other sister-friends in my circle.

Lawrence Hightower is *hot* as hell, with a smart mouth (and sexy body, to boot!) and the strong desire to serve and protect. He, with his high class family full of police officers, detectives, and firemen make him seem like an unlikely match for Minerva, but in the end, their passion for each other make it clear that the *law of desire* would draw them into each other's arms and make them a most compatible pair.

I have to admit, this is the first book I have read by Bolton and I am ready for more Hightower men.
