You would need a "multi-region" or "region-free" PAL compatible DVD player or computer.] REVIEW: At its core Law Of Desire features a fabulous trio: the famous Madrid director Pablo (Poncela) for whom men are prepared to die, his new love-crazed boyfriend Antonio (Banderas) and Pablo's flamboyant and gorgeous transsexual sister Tina. Pablo is suffering because Juan, his lover, shares his steamy passion but not his commitment, and has returned to his village in southern Spain. Trying to forget him, Pablo is seduced by the tall, dark, handsome and heterosexual Antonio who, in the space of 24 hours, goes from having his first gay affair, to being Pablo's demanding (and threatening!) lover. Pablo makes the mistake of dismissing Antonio as inconsequential but Antonio intends to pursue his passions to their ultimate conclusion... An unbridled send-up of the absurdities of human desire, Law Of Desire is a wildly funny film that took American and European audiences by storm in 1987 and immediately established director Pedro Almodovar as one of the most talented and quirky directors in Europe.

This film is an immersion into the topsy-turvy world of Pedro Almodovar and post-Franco Madrid, with plenty of explicit and subtle sexual ambiguity. Carmen Maura is first rate as a transexual actress/actor down on his/her luck, and Antonio Banderas is downright delicious as a young man obsessed with Maura's hedonistic and selfish brother (Eusebio Ponseca). There is great music here, and the movie is fun!

This by far has to be the best almodovar movie. unfourtanely i think it will be a long time before it comes out on dvd. This is one of my favorite foreign movies. It is touching and powerful and antonio banderas actually knew how to act then. If anyone out there works for any studio's and happens to read this please put this on dvd it will sell..............................

The Law of Desire was the first of Almodovar's films to be released in the U.S. although it is not his first film. And what an introduction. The film is sleek and sexy and captures Antonio Banderas in all his sexual beauty. What one has to know about Almodovar is the sense of humor behind the vehicle which is the film. To begin with, the GREAT Carmen Maura has an incredible history: she was a boy, taken away by her father as I recall, had a subsequent sex change to become a woman and is now in a lesbian relationship--so she has essentially come full circle! That is the sly humor of Almodovar; his art also draws you into the pathology of Banderas, with his incredible beauty, until you are finally rooting for him to accomplish his criminal intent. When Almodova wants to be flippant he is the master; when he wants to get a joke across, the delivery is first class; when he wants you to cry, he is incomparable--I defy anyone to sit through All About My Mother with dry eyes. The future genius of Almodovar is up front in this film and his work to date has never disappointed.
