"Ron Stern's book is a thorough guide to the entire law enforcement profession. It is written in concise, understandable language and is full of vital information and relevant tips for anyone interested in entering into police work." -- Heather A. Hurst, Associate Editor, Police Magazine

About the Author

Ron Stern has been involved in law enforcement since 1976. He began his career at the age of 18 as a police student worker for the Los Angeles Police Department. He went on to become a sworn officer with the City of Whittier, CA in 1976. Later he joined the California Highway Patrol where he served in a variety of capacities including field training officer, drug recognition expert, administrative aide for the 1984 Olympic Games, recruitment, and most notably as an applicant investigatior. Ron retired from the CHP in 1989. Ron has spent countless hours conductiong pre-employment investigations of peace officer candidates and making rocommendations as to their suitability for employment. This experience has made him keenly aware of how difficult it is for most police agencies to find qualified applicants.

The book was easy to read and covered the whole hiring process. I was getting really poor oral interview ratings, until I read this book by Ron Stern. Last Oral Board I took I got #1, and hope to get a job soon. California. I really recommend Stern's "Taking an Oral Interview in Law Enforcent" audio tape, in the "Application Preparation Kit&.
