What struck me most about this book was the author's heavy self-promotion. While the book does provide good information on its title topic and can be very helpful, it struck me as having too much of an advertorial focus. 5.0 out of 5 stars Combines law of attraction with forgiveness--very inspiring!, November 11, 2009
This review is from: The Law of Forgiveness: Tap in to the Positive Power of Forgiveness--and Attract Good Things to YourLife (Paperback)
The Law of Forgiveness by Connie Domino, PMP, RN
On her deathbed, my mother's final words to me were, "Susan, forgive everyone!" I said I thought I had already. She said, "Dig deeper!" This book is helping me to do just that!

When I first got this book, I assumed it would be just another book telling me that I would feel so much better if I could forgive everyone, including myself of course. But my interest peaked when I realized it offers so much more than that.

The author discovered while giving Law of Attraction workshops that when people really forgave others, they would start manifesting their goals and dreams at a much accelerated rate! She claims that there is a law of forgiveness, just as there is a law of gravity or attraction.

The author discusses the importance of forgiveness in all the major world religions. Then she discusses her personal journey and discovery of this law. She knew she was on to something big when a woman in her class was able to manifest a brand new building for her charter school in only 8 months (the usual time, from the author's experience, being 5 years). People who had spent tens of thousands of dollars on law of attraction books, seminars, coaches, CDs and DVDs were finding results much faster with her workshop. Many testimonials are given, such as people forgiving someone who owed them money, and receiving the payment within a week after forgiving.

The book presents everything you need to know and would learn in the workshop. Guidelines are given such as whom to forgive, how to know if we need to forgive, what to do if someone should forgive you. We need to forgive not just people, but organizations, institutions and governments. It is explained that you are doing the forgiving for yourself--to set free the negative energy that has been blocking you--and you don't even need to contact the person you are forgiving. Instead, you have an imaginary meeting with them (and really, you're talking to their Higher Self). Also, your forgiving doesn't mean that you condone the action of the person you forgive. There is also a 3-step technique for forgiving in relationships. The techniques in this book also unite forgiving and goal setting, which are usually in the areas of money, career, relationships and health.

There are also 3 affirmations to use. These affirmations do not include blame, a demand for conditions, or any negativity. One is an affirmation to forgive others, one is for others to forgive you, and one is to forgive yourself (probably the one most needed since we are our harshest critic!)

Forgiveness breaks a bond of negativity, and many people find that the person they forgave will contact them or run into them out of the blue, even if they haven't had contact in years! The forgiven one is also transformed. An example is given of a woman who forgave her father for molesting her. She hadn't talked to him in 3 years. About a week after she forgave him, he suddenly called and wanted to meet her; when they met, he asked for her forgiveness!

The author includes a chapter on the scientific studies on forgiveness (though they focus on the person's resulting emotional well being and not on the law of attraction that unfolds). There is also a chapter on using the law of forgiveness to heal relationships, along with a PESC technique (problem, emotion, solution, and consequences). Case studies are included.

Additional chapters include using the forgiveness techniques for work, using it for healing, how forgiveness unblocks the energy for justice to be served, reaching a higher state of consciousness via forgiving, and much more. Anecdotes and examples are mentioned throughout the book, and we are left with a delightful feeling of eagerness to forgive so we can graduate to higher levels of living.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good info, but overly self-promoting, November 13, 2009
This review is from: The Law of Forgiveness: Tap in to the Positive Power of Forgiveness--and Attract Good Things to YourLife (Paperback)
What struck me most about this book was the author's heavy self-promotion. While the book does provide good information on its title topic and can be very helpful, it struck me as having too much of an advertorial focus. It seemed a primary goal of this book was to promote the Connie Domino workshops.

The testimonials seem too good to be true. So and so did this, and that miraculous thing happened right away. The author provides no way to check the veracity of these accounts via third-party references. This a problem, because author relies heavily on these accounts and they make up the bulk of the text (or at least seem to).

While she doesn't provide sources backing her own success stories (except for another self-help author or two), she does provide sources for a few non-workshop accounts of following forgiveness principles. One example is the healing in South Africa following the ending of apartheid.

Among the good information is a script for developing your own forgiveness incantation. Such an incantation can be very effective if you use it properly. She doesn't claim that there are magic words that have any particular power. She provides a means of centering your thoughts in a structured manner.

I'm not an expert in this field, but it is my opinion that forgiveness must come from deep down inside. The incantation won't work unless it's something you really meditate upon. I think this is the author's intent, but she doesn't make that clear enough in my opinion.

While I personally do not doubt that her process is effective (if used properly), she doesn't make a rigorous case for it. Maybe her point is that you should try this for yourself and make up your own mind based on results. She may intend for those results to serve as a sampler for what you can really do if you participate in one of her workshops.

This book consists of 9 chapters. The first chapter provides us with the author's background in forgiveness, and how she personally developed an appreciation for its power. In the second chapter, she explains how to forgive in an effective manner.

One valuable point she brings up, in conflict with some other authors on the subject, is it's not necessary for you to contact the person you are forgiving. While in many cases, it may be advisable to make such contact, in many cases it's inadvisable. And in some, it's impossible. When authors state that you have to "make peace" with the other person, how can children forgive dead parents? Countless other examples abound, where contacting the person is just not a good idea or is simply impossible.

Another valuable point is she says you need to forgive yourself. Berating yourself for your past mistakes, unless you need to correct them in the present moment, doesn't help. It does bring negativity into the foreground and serve as a barrier to healing. Some other authors talk about forgiving others but overlook self-forgiveness. In many cases, forgiving yourself is necessary for you to forgive others. So it was good she covered this.

In the third chapter, she provides what I consider a weak explanation of the science behind forgiveness. For coffee table talk, it may be fine. But it isn't a serious discussion. I believe she included it as food for thought, so readers would be open to things that currently defy explanation. I think she was making the point that just because you can't explain doesn't mean it isn't so. Try explaining how your brain works, and you see that this point rings true.

Chapter 4 is about healing relationships, Chapter 5 is about working through anger, and Chapter 6 is about the law of forgiveness in the workplace. In Chapter 7, she discusses the relationship between forgiveness and health. Then in Chapter 8, she talks about taking it to the next level: higher consciousness.

Chapter 9 proposes a forgiveness revolution. This is an interesting concept. The author proposes this as a means to world peace. If you look at all wars, you see that the people who start them and end them are not the same people who fight them. Wars make a few individuals very rich, and so I think it's greed rather than grudges fueling them.

So I don't consider world peace a reason to forgive. The most compelling reason is one she discussed and alluded to in the rest of the book: inner peace. People so driven by greed and power lust that they orchestrate wars aren't seeking inner peace, so this is a non-starter for them.

If you have a forgiveness problem and need some motivation to attend a forgiveness workshop, then this book should be on your reading list. If you're not in that situation, it's probably still worth the ridiculously low price and the time it takes to read it. Despite all the workshop promotion in it, I still found this book worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Law of Forgiveness - It does WORK!, March 10, 2010
This review is from: The Law of Forgiveness: Tap in to the Positive Power of Forgiveness--and Attract Good Things to YourLife (Paperback)
I was just reading the reviews for Connie Domino's book "The Law of Forgiveness." I can certainly understand that there could be some skepticism for what some would consider too good to be true. However, I have been a long time student of The Law of Attraction, and been in many of Connie's workshop's. I was one of the original skeptic's saying that "that old so and so, he doesn't deserve to be forgiven and I'm not doing it!" When Connie explained the true purpose behind forgiveness, that it releases the past in relation to the other person, and helps me to heal, and it's not about the other person, then I thought, well I don't have anything to lose to do it. Once I did the forgivness affirmation, things began happening in my life. It was as if the flood gates opened. I immediately manifested a new relationship with a wonderful man in that very class! I manifested a new job, that proved to be perfect for me, and I manifested a brand new home, which I was able to build on my own. I had no idea how much I had been blocking prosperity in my life because of my unwillingness to forgive. So, for those of you that question if this stuff really works....it really works! I have seen it in my own life, and the lives of friends and family. You have nothing to lose to do this, and everything to gain. And yes, my "case study" is in the book. If anyone has any questions about working with the Law of Forgivness, I will be happy to talk with you.

Blessings to all,

Donna A. Williams

5.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Look At Forgiveness That Will Inspire, February 10, 2010
This review is from: The Law of Forgiveness: Tap in to the Positive Power of Forgiveness--and Attract Good Things to YourLife (Paperback)
According to author Connie Domino, we can attract good things into our lives just by tapping into the power of forgiveness. Forgiveness is a universally accepted principle that is necessary and important in many world religions. The author explores the roll of forgiveness in Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism. According to the book's introduction, "Most spiritual and religious leaders will agree that forgiveness of oneself and others is one way to clear the mind, heart and soul and may result in a feeling of increased peace and happiness. " This is the most important point of the book because it makes the strongest case for forgiveness. Forgiveness is not something that we do for other people, it is for ourselves. Forgiveness frees negative energy so that we can (according to the author) attract all that we desire. Domino says, "When you forgive, you are releasing yourself from this person and their actions on an energetic field."

During Domino's Law of Attraction workshops, she found that when people truly forgave others, they would start manifesting their goals very quickly. Domino claims that there is a law of forgiveness, just as there is a law of attraction.

Domino cites several testimonials in the book. Kelly, who attended her workshop in 2002, practiced the forgiveness technique and focused on her business goals. She was "blown away" when she received a check from a ten-year-old law suit for $25,000. Another woman was able to manifest a new building for her charter school only eight months after putting the law of forgiveness to work. Other workshop participants claimed the people that they forgave would call, e-mail or send them a check right out of the blue. While all these stories are fantastic to read, and I want to believe them, Domino doesn't provide any references to validate these accounts.

Domino does include interesting references on the individual and cultural practice of forgiveness. Colin Tipping, the author of Radical Forgiveness, believes that we create our experiences, good and bad for soul-development purposes. He recommends that when we forgive, we should express gratitude to those we forgive for showing us the lesson that our soul needs to learn. The Amish people have a unique understanding and practice of forgiveness. Domino references the 2006 shooting in an Amish schoolhouse. A gunman killed five school girls, injured five others and then killed himself. The world was more shocked by the response of the Amish community. Almost immediately, they forgave the killer and offered support to his family.

Additional chapters include using the forgiveness techniques for healing, for work, and relationships. Domino explores the idea of unblocking energy through forgiveness, as it allows for justice to be served. Reaching a higher state of consciousness through forgiveness is possible for everyone, according to Domino.

I recommend the Law of Forgiveness because it offers so much more than just the idea of forgiveness as a quick way to feel better about yourself and attract material possessions. Along with providing her workshop techniques to implement the Law of Forgiveness, Domino examines forgiveness from every angle, from scientific to religious, individual to cultural, which makes for an interesting and most inspiring read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reformed Worry Wart :), August 24, 2010
Prior to studying the Law of Attraction and Law of Forgiveness with Connie Domino, I was one of the world's worst worry warts :) I did not realize my thoughts and words were keeping me in a state of perpetual negativity.

I thought I was generally a happy person and healthy person, but I had a lot of self doubt. I had lots of friends and extra curricular activities, but I still worried about future events.

Once I began studying with Connie Domino (9 years ago), I began realizing how "thought becomes things" and I was manifesting my future from day one ! That was a scary thought in itself.

I am happy that Connie wrote these books (The Law of Forgiveness and Developing Irresistible Attraction) to help people who do not have the privilege of working directly with her.

Now, not only do I have the power to create my future (which is pretty spectacular, but I now refer my clients to her when they are feeling stuck :) I also teach people how to write affirmations to change their lives and move from a place of negativity (fear) to a place of love.

Many of the changes are quite fast and seem like magic ... but actually it is simply the experience of coming into one's own power and awareness !

Connie, thank you from the bottom of my heart, for teaching me and sharing your teachings with others.

Whether one is struggling to cope with death, personal abuse, self doubt, or relationship problems, Connie Domino's "The Law of Attraction" offers a step-by-step program that is better at helping one cope than other self-help book in this class. This book helps its readers understand and use the science behind techniques of forgiveness. It presents tools for identifying and achieving goals, for forging while working through the cycle of healing, and unleashing the power of personal forgiveness of oneself and for others. I buy this book five copies at a time and give one to family members and friends who need coping tools.I get positive feedback from each person to whom I give a copy of this book. Personally, I review this book frequently- especially when faced with a new challenge. Connie Domino's books are some of my most cherished volumes.
