Fantastic Debut,
By vitajex "11th Duke of Chalfont" (Mpls., MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Con Law (Audio CD)
Grant Widmer and Ted Joyner, formerly of The Eames Era, have put together an amazing first album.
Drawing on influences ranging from Phil Spector's 'Wall of Sound' production techniques to the tight pop-rock tunesmithing of Paul Westerberg, the name Generationals is truly apropos; the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's are melted together in one big pot of catchy hooks and handclaps & 'Oooh, Oooh' backing vocals. In the same retro-spective spectrum as The Strokes, The Killers and others, 'Con Law' blends modern indie sensibilities with dusty old 45rpm aesthetics to give the illusion that one is cleaning out a grandparent's attic only to stumble on a long-forgotten piece of vinyl. Highlights include: "When They Fight They Fight"- The song would not be out of place in the original "Hairspray" film. "Wildlife Sculpture" "Faces in the Dark"

This is a fun album and unlike Pandora schlock its catchy songs hold up over repeated listens and revisits. The instrumentation is inventive and interesting without being superfluous or there just to mask a void. I find the lyrics to be very rewarding. You can easily listen all the way through and enjoy every minute of it. Tell your lame and not lame friends alike to garb it now. I think these guys are barbarically under appreciated. Their EP and 2nd LP are also some how phenomenal.

One of the best CDs I own,
This review is from: Con Law (Audio CD)
I first heard "Faces in the Dark" on the sound system at work. The guy who picks the music for our stores is pretty hit or miss, but that song got stuck in my head so hard that I had to buy the album. Next thing I know, I'm a huge fan. Literally every track on this album is excellent. It's rare to find a CD that you can listen to all the way through without wanting skipping at least one song. I'd recommend you buy the whole album, but if you are going to be cheap and just buy a track or two, the main points of the album are "Faces in the Dark", "When They Fight They Fight", and "Nobody Could Change Your Mind".

LOVE the Generationals!!!!!,
This review is from: Con Law (Audio CD)
A great debut from another amazing Park the Van band. I was first turned onto Dr. Dog 3 years ago at Bonaroo, purchased one record and them all of them. Then I heard about the spinto Band who is also on the same label. Love them! Now Generationals...wow, When They Fight They Fight will be my summer jam.
