Alright, I haven't reviewed anything on Amazon in literally...five years if I'm not mistaken. But I found it, well, scandalous that an album like this boasted only one review.

I admit that like many followers of Emma Pollock's solo career, I was a fan of The Delgados first, and view her work in a certain rose-tinted light. That said, I found The Law of Large Numbers astounding: musically gorgeous, lyrically witty, and thematically cohesive. It also has a certain quality that, as a musical amateur, I have trouble putting my finger on; but it makes you sit up straight. I often have to "get accustomed" to albums one song at a time but with this one, I listened straight through from the moment I loaded it.

I liked Emma's solo debut (Watch The Fireworks) a great deal, but even that didn't inspire something as drastic as getting back in the reviewer's saddle. This stands head and shoulders above that, and above any individual Delgados album. I always found The Delgados' inability to attain what you might call "critical success mass" rather puzzling; but if people aren't listening to this, I honestly wonder what they are listening to. Give The Law of Large Numbers a try; it may well be the best thing you've heard in quite some time.

The law of Large Numbers is a masterpiece. Emma's voice is amazing and the musical arrangements are staggering. Seriously people ... buy this.

I've been a supporter of the Delgados for quite some time and was thrilled to see Emma branch out on her own with such a fantastic sophmore album. This is a keeper, and easily competes with the quality of an 2010 alternative release on the market.
