4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated, January 18, 2005
This review is from: Law & Order (Audio CD)
I'm not gonna tell you that this guy is the second coming of christ, cuz thats what most reviewers do (or tell you that he is straight @$$).

I will say that its crazy that people sleep on Bossman so much. Here in baltimore, he sold 20,000 on the street alone. think about that: no promos, just concerts and cds, and 20,000 people buy your cd. in other words, just about everybody in baltimore knows that bossman is nice, even if they dont have his cd, but nobody outside the city limits has ever heard of him.

well, i can say this much about him. being in baltimore, halfway between north and south, his music sounds like its part northern (with the new york sounding piano and violin samples) and part southern (the bass kicks, the fast ticking drum machines, the mild twang in the voice we have here in baltimore).

lyrically, bossman is totally on point. in terms of complexity, flow, he's at least as good as 80% of the rappers who are getting famous now adays. In terms of realness, hes just to real. He raps about everything, literally. He goes from rapping about relationships with his friends and family, to how people die because of beef, to how he hates how people forget that R. Kelly molested little girls.

The brightest moments on the album are "Off the Record," several minutes of real deep thought, from politics (talks about bush and bill clinton, vote scam in florida in 2000, and the potential for a draft), to life, to death. Great beat.

"Crazy" is also a great cut, with a great beat and solid lyrics. This one is especially introspective; it talks about how he tries to stay away from violence because he needs to be alive and well in order to support his family.

"The Last Dance" is also a great song, with a nice piano beat and the darkest lyrics on the album. the song features two other underground b-more emcees, and all three rhyme about potential situations of death. each rapper has one verse telling a story about their last few hours on earth. the three die by, a- shooting at cops as they try to arrest him, and he dies in the process, b- allowing drug usage to get out of hand and dying under the influence of cocaine and heroin, and c- being set up by a girl and shot in the back.

All in all, the album is very listenable. If you come to b-more and turn on the radio, you might hear "I did it," the single off the album with a good beat and positive lyrics about how people strive to support themselves. As far as baltimore is concerned, this guy gets about as much airplay as Kanye West and 50 cent, but like i said, he is unheard of in the rest of the world. Do this man a favor and check him out. STOP SLEEPING ON BOSSMAN.

5.0 out of 5 stars OFF THE HOOK !! - OFF THE RECORD, June 23, 2005
This review is from: Law & Order (Audio CD)
Let me start by saying that as producer/songwriter/pianist myself out of DC I listened the album first from a musical standpoint, then a production standpoint and then lyrical content lastly.

Track # 6 "Off The Record" I first heard this joint when driving through Baltimore...couldn't find it DC anywhere. Tracked it down via the internet and bam...this dude's website had the whole thang bangin... This is a hypnotic track...positive & uplifting but at the same time grimmy & gutter. I got the thang on repeat on my system. HOTTEST JOINT ON THE CD!! AN INSTANT CLASSIC IN MY OPINION!

Track # 7 "Oh" (B-More-Anthem). This joint is pumping! The hook will have you bobbing I don't where you at. Hell I aint from B-more!! CLUB BANGA, CLUB BANGA!!!

This cat has got serious potential.

This CD was a best buy...copped it from Best Buy.

Your heard from me...Pianoman (VA/DC)..

5.0 out of 5 stars What the Game's Been Missin, August 9, 2006
This review is from: Law & Order (Audio CD)
I never heard of this cat till about a month ago. He had a track named "Homicide" on a mixtape that i had copped, which is actually a diss record aimed at some poor soul he ripped to pieces. This guy's flow is of the chain. He switch styles with perfection, and just rips apart every last beat given on this album. Even more impressive is that this album is not on a major label, with no heavy producers nor any high profiled featured artist, and his still one of the most bangin albums i heard in a hot minute. He is currently signed under Virgin Records and is still awaiting his major label release of the same title. Whether telling a story or just spittin' hard at the mic, Bossman is just lyrically sick with it. Ain't no doubt that this cat is goin' to be huge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic debut, November 7, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Law & Order (Audio CD)
For what its worth, this album is a classic....Bossman didn't have the luxury of a huge budget to make this album like most rappers signed to major labels do....But the album still sounds very polished...

Bossman is true lyricist...His topics aren't just about money, drugs and hoes...He has many descriptive stories that will hold u captive and take you into the life of a teen growing up in B-More--through his eyes. Bossman has a real nice flow ...I guess you could compare it to Jay Z, altho Bossman certainly doesn't have the wit of a jay Z yet....

Like someone else mentioned, there's no way to really describe the sound of this album in geographic terms...Bmore has never really carved out its own identity in the hip hop world....Bossman style reflects NYC/Philly but their is definately a southern influence....Either way, it makes for a sick combo...

I would recommend this to all fans of real hip hop...Bossman is the Truth!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Record I Have Heard, March 29, 2005
This review is from: Law & Order (Audio CD)
This record is hot, it is a shame that no one knows him outside of B-More. He is one of the reallest rappers out. He isnt fake about any thing he talks about things that happen in Charm City. He has put out a CD that Baltimore we will never forget. He will be forever known here. I just hope that everyone will find out about him and he will get the recognition he deserves. He deserves to be better known than 50. People need to listen to different things than mainstream. He talks real. He is my favorite. I am 14 and I hope before I pass he will be known by than. Peace Out, Please check this man out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Legend, April 1, 2007
This review is from: Law & Order (Audio CD)
Hearing "Hand Clap" a little while back in the car with my friends going to school we would always turn up that jam, firstly because my man Boss Man reps B'more the finest city in America, but also cos the jam is that sick. then i started to hear more from this legend and realized this man is a sick rapper. the song "Dat Night" he uses the same beat from Usher's SuperStar II and he has it speeded up and it sounds pretty nice. the thing that is so quality about this CD is that Boss Man is still sort of underground, yet his beats are all good and lyrics/voice is even better. he may say his name a lot and talk about baltimore a lot but i love it because i rep B'More to the fullest so it's good to hear a Charm City rapper. the best songs on here are "off da record", "oh(baltimore anthem)", "say something", "closing arguments", "pressure". other crucial Boss Man songs are "Hand Clap", "Tinted Crown Vics", and "You're Wrong". Get this CD, he should definitely be huge soon, new album 'BulletProof B'

5.0 out of 5 stars OFF THE RECORD, October 2, 2005
This review is from: Law & Order (Audio CD)
Basically if you listen to number 6 on Law and Order you will be absolutelty amazed... i remember I was riding through VA and this song came on the radio and I was like damn this must be a prominent rapper.. So i looked for this song everywhere and I couldn't find his album anywhere, that song must have been on my mind for months. It was just that amazing it's probably one of my favorite songs ever... and I don't just listen to any rapper and sweat his flow... BUT BOSSMAN, OFF THE RECORD IS ONE AMAZING SONG... I'm bumpin it right now matter a fact.. sometimes I just roll around my neighborhood bumpin that one song ALL DAY... The tight thing I like about the song is that it's one of the realest songs ever made and nobody's really even heard it before because it's only really known in the Baltimore area.. Man if I had a label Bossman would be the first signed he has infinte potential and he's definetly gonna blow up soon...

5.0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC solo debut -- best album of 2004 & its from B-More, April 1, 2005
By
This review is from: Law & Order (Audio CD)
Let me start by saying I had 2 North East Kings (N.E.K.) albums 2 or 3 years before this came out and he was my favorite in the group. I'm not being bias cause I'm from NE Baltimore but he is one of the tightest rappers out now and has a flow that's unbelievable. When things broke up between them, Jimmy Hash (Bossman's alias in the group) went solo. This dropped right before Christmas (and what a gift it was) around here and for a month straight all you heard in B-More was this album. It is my favorite album that dropped in 2004. It has 17 songs, half a dozen or more are classic material and the others are Great. Production on the album is out of this world. 1Up does 12 of the 17 songs and is great, Rod Lee (who does Tim Trees beats), Samir, & Spit 1 all do 1 song, and Niige does 2 songs, A Classic rap album that all people need to have in their collection, the man sold almost 25,000 in B-More alone by word of mouth and promotional CD's.

#1 - 10 (CLASSIC -- great beat)

#3 - 9.5 (CLASSIC material -- great beat)

#4 - 9

#5 - 9 (uses rappers names and albums to tell a clever story)

#6 - 10 (CLASSIC and one of my all time favorite rap songs -- very deep and thought provoking song -- great beat)

#7 - 8

#8 - 9.5 (classic material -- deeper song w/ good old beat)

#10 - 8.5

#11 - 10 (CLASSIC and another one of my all time favorites -- great beat & story)

#12 - 9

#13 - 8 (f/ chinky brown eyes)

#15 - 8 (f/ Tony Manson & Dollars/D.O. of North East Kings (N.E.K.)

#16 - 9 (f/ Dollars/D.O. of N.E.K.)

#18 - 8.5 (f/ Hots)

#19 - 9 (deeper song f/ kaleena)

#20 - 9 (f/ Mo Heavy Gold & Dollars/D.O. of N.E.K.)

#21 - 8.5 (F/ Jimmy Hash of N.E.K. -- he's also very tight but left the group w/ Mo Heavy Gold)

Also if you can find any of the following B-More natives get 'em

** Nature's Problem "Welcome to Baltimore City" (3.5 stars) from West B-More (they aiight), (holler at me if you can get me "The Future" or "Code of the Streets" (gzoverlea6@aol.com)

** Comp (West B-More) he's tight and still a teen -- he was signed to Def Jam)

** North East Kings (NE B-More) - they tight

** Skarr Akbar & Da Bloc. Ent. (East B-More)-- "Heat" & "Heat 2" (5 stars -- another great album)

** Chae Fontaine's "See What I See Episode 1" (4 stars)

** Tim Trees -- (East B-More) "Dalton Vol. 1" (4.5 stars) & "Dalton Vol. 2" (4 stars)

** B Rich -- (NE B-More) "80 Dimes" (4.5 stars)

** Five Diggy & Kaotic are aiight as well

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best thing to hit rap in a long time, March 17, 2005
This review is from: Law & Order (Audio CD)
This CD is off the chain. I haven't heard an enitire CD that I could listen to from top to bottom and have all the joints be hot. Off the record is too real for most to handle but he spits it from the heart and thats just where it hits you. "Stay Together sounds like a radio smash and is one the hottest songs I've heard. The Bossman's flow and lyrics are off the chain.
