Law & Order: Sepcial Victims Unit - The Ninth Year had less episodes thanks to that Writers Strike - what was the point of that again? Anyway Season 9 is awesome and gut-wrenching especially that episode with Olivia Benson goes undercover as an inmate to try and catch a rapist, Mariska Hargitay is such a talented and fearless actress, now that's acting guys! Other great episode is when Stabler's wife gets into a car accident and she's pregnant and is forced to deliver the baby right then and there, such a gripping scene. I highly recommend season 9, SVU rocks!

I've seen every single episode of Law and Order SVU, and own all the seasons out at this momsent. And I can not wait for this seaosn not just because it back to the old school SVU that a lot of people like (the 'just the facts mam' type cases with a little personal drama thrown in there for good measure) But it has a lot of intense character driven episodes as well that makes SVU an original in the land of the L and O's.
Plus this season contains one of the majority of fans favorite episode, Undercover, also known as, "The one with the basement scene."
Packed with great episodes, fantastic moments, and amazing gues stars (Robin Williams, Bill Pullman and so on and so fourth,) Season nine is an amazing season to own, and I reccomend it to not jsut SVU fans such as myself, btut anyone with a good sense of telivision who is tired of the same old thing, which I can assure you, SVU is not.

I was a high school senior and at the time I was strongly into TV crime and cop shows. But I don't think I was looking out for quality. Because looking back, this is the season where it really started to fall apart. And thus, I had a hard time rating this season. After 8 years on air, It feels as if the writing just got a tad bit lazy around this season. Also the cast was unbelievably too big! The least they could've done was replace one of the doctors with Adam Beach. Whom by the way, at first seemed liked a likable character, but then ended up being character who never really caught on. With a cast of 8 regulars, I'm sure that the writers/producers were having a hard time trying squeeze in everyone the best they can. As for the writing, it might be just minor things to someone not paying any attention, but when Elliot pats down Robin Williams in the recording studio, who does he miss the "detonator"? And for that matter why didn't properly pat him down and find the real detonator? Why would you enter an apartment with an ESU team but decide not to call for backup when you're going to a run-down recording studio? You can expect a high school senior only watching for the thrills to swallow such poor writing, but not a 24 year old English major and Law & Order buff. But to be fair, the season is not totally bad. There are better episodes here and there I will suggest. In fact, I will admit that most of the episodes this are worth watching(I've counted 12 I consider are the better). But the overcrowded cast and the diminished quality of nearly half of the stories takes a toll for me. I'd put it somewhere between three 1/2 and four stars. If you see it for an affordable price, get it.Read more ›

This is probably the most dramatic, exciting season of the series so far. And if you haven't watched any of the other seasons, stop what you're doing and go back! Sure you could start here, but you'd be missing out on a lot, and I think that would just be a shame.

Law and Order Special Victims Unit is about the hard crimes, with the special victims. Those victims of rape, child abuse, and elder abuse. Things that are hard to deal with but in which every decent person wants justice for. And because of the hard to handle nature of the crimes, there's a special police force dedicated to them in New York: SVU. As part of a running series, there are many seasons of this show out and most of them are stand alone episodes. however, in the lives of the detectives there is a little continuity to tie all the seasons together.

As I said before, this was an exciting season. A lot of great story lines and episodes and one heck of a cliffhanger last episode. It made me want to start the tenth season right away. Some of the particular standouts were "Impulsive" where a teacher is accused of sexual assault and all isn't what it seems and "Snitch" where informants are hurt and afraid to supply testimony, and "Undercover" where detective Benson gets to close to a sexual assault while undercover in a women's prison. To be honest, I can't really think of any episodes I didn't care for in this season. There were a couple of so-so ones, but nothing that made me want to skip over an episode to the next one.

Christopher Meloni as Det. Elliot Stabler
Mariska Hargitay as Det. Olivia Benson

I love Law and Order: SVU and have been a fan for many years. The Special Victims Unit deals with crimes of rape, incest, and child abuse to name a few, topics that were often ignored on TV before this show came out and opened the forum for discussion on it. I also think it's empowering that the detectives in any rape case encourage the victims to come forward and get help because so many victims choose not to for various reasons. Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni (Benson and Stabler) bring such emotion to their characters and they are both phenomenal actors and have such chemistry together that you love them as a team. Even though this show has been on for many years, they still manage to bring new topics and ideas to the episodes. The show is so well written and riveting and you are hooked from the "dunk dunk" sound in the first segment. Every episode is amazing!

Season 9 included Stabler's wife's unexpected pregnancy after they had a brief reconciliation and the car accident she and Olivia are in together, which forces the baby to be born right then and there. Other fantastic episodes this season were the teacher accused of raping a student who says the student raped her, a Christian values group couple steals frozen embryos from a fertility clinic, and especially when Olivia goes undercover in a women's prison to try to catch a guard accused of assaulting inmates, causing her to experience her own trauma. This show is fantastic and won't disappoint!
