5.0 out of 5 stars "The King of B-Westerns & Serials...VCI Entertainment ~ Law of the Range (1941)", January 7, 2006
This review is from: Law of Range [VHS] (VHS Tape)
VCI Entertainment and Universal Pictures present "Law of the Range" (1941) (digitally remastered), long running Johnny Mack Brown series turned out in the early '40s...the story line has Riley Hill and Johnny Mack Brown in the middle of a family feud with both men owning ivory handled guns...earlier there was a feud between the fathers Hal Taliaferro and Pat O'Malley which will be settled by the sons...Fuzzy Knight is as forgetful as ever, but will he remember who's side he's on in the end...watch for Nell O'Day with all the spunk she can muster, will she have a hand in saving the day....there's plenty of action in this oateater, so don't miss any of this adventure...is there something familar about this film, could it be we've seen this one before with Buck Jones as our hero in "The Ivory-Handled Gun" (1935).

Under director Ray Taylor, associate producer Will Cowan, screenplay by Sherman Lowe, suggested by a story by Charles E. Barnes, musical director H. J. Salter...the cast include Johnny Mack Brown (Steve Howard), Fuzzy Knight (Chap), Nell O'Day (Mary O'Brien), Riley Hill (The Wolverine Kid/as Roy Harris) Elaine Morey (Virginia O'Brien), Pat O'Malley (Mr. Howard), Wally Wales (Tim O'Brien/as Hal Taliaferro), Charles King (Walt), Ethan Laidlaw (Jeff Hobart ), Jack Rockwell (Sheriff Henderson), Alan Bridge (Jamison), Jerome Harte (Curt/henchman), Terry Frost (Sam Emory), Texas Rangers........special footnote, Fuzzy Knight was the sidekick with his comical ways in many B-Westerns in the '30s & '40s with Johnny Mack Brown and Tex Ritter, finally landing a co-starring role with Buster Crabbe on the small tube in the TV series "Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion" (1955) as Private Fuzzy Knight........another special footnote, actor Charles King was among the top five "Best of the Badmen" (according to a new book by Boyd Magers, Bob Nareau and Bobby Copeland)...King was a big man, but as agile as a cat during his fight scenes with Johnny Mack Brown, Buster Crabbe, Tex Ritter, The Rough Riders and Bob Steele...King appeared in 400 films and 350 were in sound including many cliffhangers...he was the heavy we loved to hate........meanwhile this is an exciting Johnny Mack Brown western provided by Universal Pictures during their heyday of the early '40s.
