The laws, not the annecdotes, December 14, 1999
This review is from: The Law of Self-Defense: A Guide for the Armed Citizen (Paperback)
There is so much passion when discussing what "rights" an armed citizen has to shoot another human being, that is is terribly difficult to get any useful information. And trying to defend your actions because you read about some law in some gun magazine will make a pretty weak defense.
Andrew Branca, Esq., has written a very useful little book that eschews the hype and gets right down to the case law. The book is well organized into what the main defenses are for using deadly self-defense: Necessity, proportionality and reasonablness. He points out the unavoidable gray areas that permeate the court room, and show that no matter what the law says, if you shoot at someone, you had better have a pretty good reason. Jailhouse lawyering won't do you any good.
This book is written in a professorial style that requires a college -level reading ability, and even at that it is sometimes slow going. But having hard data available instead of some gun enthusiast's pontification is worth every penny.

dry but thorough, September 11, 2001
This review is from: The Law of Self-Defense: A Guide for the Armed Citizen (Paperback)
It's all about the legal process involved in claiming self-defense. The guy knows his stuff.
It's not entertaining, but it is very educational.

If youre going to own a gun, read this. It will open your eyes to gun laws and self defense. Also you can talk with the author on email, which is pretty cool.
