5.0 out of 5 stars "These bushwackers need to be taught a lesson, and I'm just the teacher." Flagg, April 24, 2009
Another excellent Western from one of the best Western Writers around today. If you have ever read one of Peter's Novels and enjoyed it;you know you'll enjoy any of his others.
This story is number 4 in the short Rogue Lawman collection and continues to be filled with lots of Old West excitement. Each of the novels in this series can be read in isolation ;so don't pass it up just because you haven't read the others.
It's a real manhunt and is filled with tons of action, and typical of Peters stories, does not become a convoluted mystery or thriller.
He gives us lots of well developed characters, some you will love and some you will despise.
In a world where law and order must sometimes be sacrificed for expediency;revenge can be the strongest of many motivating factors.
There are a lot of Lawmen in this story, and they are all resigned to doing what they must do--and damn the consequences.
At times it is hard to pick sides,,but that is not for the reader to do.In this story ,there are a lot of people who have to make decisions, and live or die with them;such is life ,particularly in the border town of Bedlam,Mexico, southwest of Tombstone Arizona.A lot of Westerns have some interesting ladies in them, but here you are going to meet some that are as tough and proficient with a gun as any gunslinger.
A great read, and highly recommended if your forte is a good Old West,Fast -Action Western.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book four in the Rogue Lawman series, May 2, 2008
Flanked by six other copper stars and armed with a death warrant, U.S. Marshal Flagg is not about to let Gideon Hawk slip through his fingers. He follows Hawk to the sleepy border town of Bedlam, where Hawk is hiding out. Hawk is considering giving up bounty hunting and starting a new life, but Flagg, who's not about to be made a fool of in front of his posse, might force Hawk's hand. Luckily for Hawk, he's got an old nemesis on his side, a woman who knows her way around him - and around a gun...

Once again Peter Brandvold turns out a savagely brutal - and at times sadistic - book where the line between good and bad doesn't exist. Marshal Flagg and his deputies being just as ruthless and cruel as the outlaws they - and Hawk - track down.

The book moves quickly from one violent confrontation to another so to say the book is action packed is almost an understatement.

Great to see Peter bring back Saradee, who first appeared in the previous Rogue Lawman book Cold Corpse, Hot Trail. A woman quick with a gun and soon seeking her own savage form of revenge.

And for Hawk this book isn't going to have a happy ending and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next in the series.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brandvold keeps up the pace, as always, April 21, 2008

I have enjoyed all of Peter Brandvolds books and this is no exception. We expect no less of ex - deputy US marshall Gideon Hawk that he tolerates no evil and will not be persecuted - even by the "law".
Always predictable, and always wins in the end .Lots of colourful scenes , love and risque titilating moments , all make for a good mix with plenty of suspense.
Brandvold rates as my favourite Western author along with Ralph Cotton and J. Lee Butts
