4.0 out of 5 stars A cute pair of romances, April 19, 2000
This review is from: The Lawman Gets Lucky/Beauty and the Bet (Harlequin Duets #26) (Paperback)

"The Lawman Gets Lucky" by Cathie Linz. In Bliss, Colorado, schoolteacher Annie Benton worries about her missing brother. She turns to local sheriff Reno Best for help, but the tired law enforcement official brushes her off. When Annie begins her own inquiries, she gets into such trouble that Reno is forced to help her. As the teacher and the sheriff become acquainted with one another, they fall in love.

"Beauty and the Bet" by Isabel Sharpe. Artiste Francois informs photographer Heather Brannen that none of the male models possesses the right chin. When he meets restaurateur Jack Fortunato, Francois feels he found the right person. The handsome Jack says no until he places a bet that he can seduce a plain looking woman. Heather dresses up as the plain Marsha who dates Jack. As Jack and Marsha fall in love, she worries how he will react when he learns her true identity.

Duets remains a winning series as Cathie Linz and Isabel Sharpe provide two wonderful tales for the price of one book. Both stories are entertaining romantic romps that will please readers who enjoy captivating contemporary capers. Isabel Sharpe is a name to watch in the romance genre for her excellent characterizations and smooth plotting. Cathie Linz continues to write what readers love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Isabel Sharpe will have you laughing-out-loud!, May 12, 2000
This review is from: The Lawman Gets Lucky/Beauty and the Bet (Harlequin Duets #26) (Paperback)
Heather Brannen has a problem . . . she's drop dead gorgeous. Yep, she can't make a move without some man hitting on her. A strange bet transforms this swan into an ugly duckling named Marsha. Jack Fortunato is used to women falling all over him, but Marsha doesn't seem to realize he's gorgeous, and this is one woman who he needs to fall so he can win his bet. So he spends time wooing her, only to realize that she's the one wooing him and that he's fallen head-over-heels.

This oddball comedy that has you feeling sorry for "beautiful people" will have you chuckling from the first page to the last! Isabel Sharpe has a comic cadence to her writing that I adored!
