#5 IN THE HEARTBREAK CANYON Series - Brady, November 24, 2004
This review is from: Lawman's Redemption (Heartbreak Canyon) (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Paperback)
Here is Brady Marshall's story - he almost lost his life in "THE SHERIFF'S SURRENDER" -
Now he is confronted with his past because of Hallie, Neely's sister, she just keeps asking questions.
Hallie has been divorced 3 times [I would have called her a loser] but we end up liking her and understanding her emotional past. [I was definitely prepared to call her a tramp].
It seems that our two characters start out with their ideas of themselves being a bit warped. Yup! the cure-all seems to be to hop into bed - is that how attractions start? What a crock!
Slowly they began to build a friendship especially after purple-haired "Les"/"Lexy" shows up. Even a teenager didn't stop their bed-hoping.
Still the tale spun out a good line [some predictable] and when they showed up at the Heartbreak Cafe - there were two pregnant woman, one being Olivia expecting her second child with Guthrie - Are we to assume that Shay was pregnant also?
Story was excellent except for their constant reminding that they were not going to commit to each other [and yet still have sex?] What losers!
I certainly hope we will be seeing Logan Marshall's story soon.
I love her writing but definitely not her character's moral outlook. Is it the editor's fault??????
Recommended if you have the fortitude for it -- definitely --M

Solid Pappano story, July 25, 2002
This review is from: Lawman's Redemption (Heartbreak Canyon) (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Paperback)
Tortured lawman and misunderstood heroine meet in this rather sporadic tale of hot passion and mishaps. Ms. Pappano is wonderful with characterization, and her heroine, Hallie, is fun to get to know. Brady is sexy, if a bit less believable due to the melodramatic, soap-opera background he's been dealt (perhaps critics would refrain from making so much fun of romance if the authors stuck with more realistic scenarios...nah, probably not!). His long-lost daughter really steals the show for a while, but adds layers to this entertaining read. It isn't one of Ms. Pappano's best. It seems to wander from hero's tortured past to heroine's insecurity to fantastical action-adventure story to fun family tale (in other words, it did a little of everything but didn't really round-out any of the elements). The resolution to the romantic conflict is very anticlimatic after the dramatic end of the suspense element. Still, it's a good read.

Very little to like about these pathetic characters, October 24, 2007
This review is from: Lawman's Redemption (Heartbreak Canyon) (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Paperback)
The heroine of this story is three times divorced and when we are introduced to her, she is feeling uncomfortable about the one night stand she just had the night before with a total stranger. Yep, that's quality for you. Later in the story she's supposed to be a role model for her one-night-stand-turn-boyfriend's teenage daughter and even reprimands the girl about her swearing. Where is this woman's morals? Casual sex is fine but watch the swearing? Yikes!
The hero is not much better. He is the typical "brooding, sensitive lawman" but he comes off as weak and avoiding issues because it's easier to just suppress them and thus, increase his sensitivity to pain.
This is one of those books that makes you wonder about the quality of material being submitted to publishing houses, if they consider a weak, cliché plot with pathetic characters print worthy.
