5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest scores ever!
Maurice Jarre's Academy Award Winning score to "Lawrence of Arabia" is pure delight. It contains great music from the film and sounds excellent. If you're looking for the soundtrack to the film, get the original and avoid the newer re-recordings by Tony Bremner which sound nothing like the Original.

3.0 out of 5 stars This album does not have "Who's name do you ride" on it!!!
It shows it playable on the media player, but isn't on the album itself, very disappointed, as that is my favorite track!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece, March 8, 2000

"Lawrence of Arabia," one of the most compelling character studies ever captured on film, is the story of T.E. Lawrence, the eccentric British officer who united the bedouin tribes of Arabia against the Turks in World War I. The story unfolds in the haunting beauty of the vast, harsh, and unforgiving deserts of the Middle East.

Maurice Jarre, through eloquent musical composition, gives voice to both the man and the desert. Lawrence was a man conflicted by personal ambition and a romantic image of the Arab cause. Jarre's crisp, syncopated musical rhythms vividly portray the exotic Arabian culture that so appealed to Lawrence. The majestic moments of the score, however, are reserved for the desert. Jarre's sweeping orchestrations blend with David Lean's expansive visual images to evoke the raw, physical power of the desert. This unforgettable synergy of sight and sound is perhaps the finest ever recorded on film.

The music on this CD is not presented in the exact sequence in which it appeared in the movie. It is of small consequence. I have collected soundtracks from numerous motion pictures over the past 40 years. This is one of the finest musical scores in my collection.

David Lean's epic film from 1962, "Lawrence of Arabia" is one of the big screen's finest achievements due in great part to the sweeping score writen by Maurice Jarre. Here is a match as close to perfect as I can imagine of spectacular visuals supported by stunning music, more than ably recorded for the Original Soundtrack release. For me, the listening experience was as enjoyable as viewing the film but after a few years, the soundtrack disappeared into vinyl memory. That is until I recently purchased the CD and to my suprise, Sir Adrian Boult's beautifully conducted score is as evocative and magical as ever. I hope you enjoy this music as much as I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be on everyone's top ten soundtrack list, July 7, 1999

Jarre's music from "Lawrence" to "Witness" to westerns and other epics show that classical music hasn't died, it just changed form. Check out his son, Jean Michel Jarre, who is also considered a national treasure in France.

5.0 out of 5 stars moon and stars, September 26, 2002

This cd is a beautiful thing. The music captures both the english and arabic characterisitics of the movie. However not the character of Lawrence, which would be ,like lasooing the moon and stars and putting them in a little box..... the movie scratches only the surface of the being in question not giving him justice , making him too much a hero, (he was a human with failures) . However his being described by himself in 7 pillars as "a crystal, many facets) he cannot be caught up in any space or described adequately with music. But the music hints at the exquisiteness of his spirit.
