The In-Laws,

This review is from: The In-Laws (1979) / The In-Laws (2003) (Double Feature) (DVD)
Both versions are great and worth comparing. I remembered the first version with Alan Arkin & Peter Falk from years ago when I first enjoyed seeing that movie, and was equally impressed with the new version with Michael Douglas & Albert Brooks where the storyline has been brought up to modern day. David Suchet (from the Poirot series) is fantastic as the villain.

Both movies are terrific...getting them both on one dvd is a great idea...both versions have comic merit...think of it as a play with two different casts and not a re-make...this movie didn't need re-making but both versions are valid...and remember...SERPENTINE!...

WE LOVED THE ORIGIONAL IN LAWS WITH PETER FALK & ALAN ARKIN THEY SHOULD'VE NEVER MADE THE ONE WITH MICHAEL DOUGLAS WHAT A WASTE OF TALENT, ALBERT BROOKS ACTED LIKE KEVIN JAMES & ADAM SANDLER LIKE THREE YEARS.

The original version of this movie with Falk is a long-standing favorite of mine. They could have saved the remake, it stinks.

I didn't know I was getting 2 dvds, that was a nice surprise. That said, I am glad that it was included because I wouldn't give a dime for the new version. I really like Mike Douglas, but this was really beneath him. The first Inlaws was hilarious. Highly recommend the first. the second is a waste of time. So the 5 stars is for the original.

The Movie Is A Classic, But The Remake Blows Goats. Peter Falk Was Just ON FIRE In This Role. He Made His Acting Look Effortless, And Carried The Movie The Way All Good Actors Do.

One of the best!,
This review is from: The In-Laws (1979) / The In-Laws (2003) (Double Feature) (DVD)
Including the unwatchable 2003 remake in this "package" only serves to highlight how awful the latter was -- was any remake, by the way, ever better than the original? -- and how masterful the original.
In the 1979 "In-Laws", Alan Arkin and Peter Falk are flawless, and constitute one of the great film comedy duos, (right up there with their near-contemporaneous Walther Matthau and Jack Lemmon in "The Odd Couple). And the script by Andrew Bergman (who, let us not forget, had a hand in writing "Blazing Saddles") is a surprisingly sophisticated riot. The 1979 "In-Laws" is one of the top 20 comedies of all time, while the 2003 remake was shameful waste ot time, energy and money.

My mother brought me to see the original movie when I was a kid! My God, I loved this movie. When it would come on HBO, I would watch it again and again. When they remade this movie, I gave it a chance, but itproved to be pure garbage. Why remake a movie that was already perfect to begin with? I am only giving this DVD a 5 star because it has the original one on it. If I had to rate the newer, updated version, I would give it a flat out 0. That's the truth! PLEASE GET IT ONLY TO WATCH THE ORIGINAL!

I love this film-the Falk Arkin version. I have not watched the remake on the flip side. I only bought the double version because it was a fraction of the price of the original Falk/Arkin version on its own. The last 20 minutes are sublime-from the moment they meet the crazy General played by Richard Libertini. Falk was so under rated- forget Columbo , get hold of some of his movies:a great and versatile actor. One of the delights of this dvd is the special feature in which they play the entire film with Peter Falk , Alan Arkin and the director and writer talking over it with their own reminiscences of what really went on during the making of the film-almost as good as watching the movie. So many lines from this film went down in history:' The Guacamole Act 1917' and 'Serpentine!' I would like to see this shown on T.V to bring it to a wider audience, along with other Falk masterpieces such as 'The Cheap Detective'Get hold of this dvd, show it to your friends, it is due for a revival!

The In-Laws with Peter Falk has been one of my favorites for a lot of years. When I saw the double feature DVD, that just made it even better. Two for the price of one. Great movies!
