My wife and I are faithful (until now) Sarah fans, but this CD is SHOCKINGLY BAD in our opinion. High School quality, whiney girl lyrics, uninspired melodies (very repetitive in feel. ) It's actually an irritating CD to listen to.

I'm a recording musician and past engineer=- not nearly of her caliber or her producer's, have performed in festivals for over 20 yrs. and taught music in schools, so I think this is a fairly "informed" opinion and not just some nut's rant. (Well, sometimes :-)

There are only two semi-standout songs IMHO, but if there are still any new listeners to Sarah, try one of her other outstanding CDs just chock full of very gifted writing and arrangements. The rest, H.S. Girls write in their notebooks every day in America.
For an artist who's writing I hold in almost as much regard as Joni Mitchell's, this is very very sad.
The songs are largely about the end of her marriage. I empathize as anyone would for someone going through that kind of intense pain, but that circumstance usually brings out awesome artistry.

This just smacks of (from reading interview in M music Magazine) of her record company DEMANDING RIGHT NOW some product from her whether or not she was ready. Hard to believe that would be the case with such a successful and popular artist, but can't think of any other reason for her to release this crap and thing it's up to anywhere near her usual excellent standards. Save your money. Highly DO RECOMMEND her truly inspirational performance, writing and production on the live CD,
"Mirror Ball". I WANT MY MONEY BACK for "Laws of Illusion". Never thought I'd say that about a Sarah album.

In fact I got it about the fifth song with the same lyrical theme. I'm sorry your marriage didn't work out, but that's no excuse for this album. There is nothing here that even scratches the surface of her best work. In fact most of it doesn't scratch the surface of her worst work. There is nothing on Sarah Mclachlan: Laws Of Illusion, not one song, that I would put on a "Best of" or even play a second time. A waste of $10 bucks. Sorry Sarah.

I have to listen to this album every day at work. I hate it. Not that I don't appreciate Sarah McLachlan or her genre, but all the songs sound the same and they're all sad and whiny. It burns my brain. Preview before you buy... and imagine that the little 20 second clip just plays over and over on every track and see if you still want to spend the money.

I couldn't believe that there were only 6 songs on the DVD. What a waste!! I couldn't believe it at all!

Okay....Sarah's voice is beautiful, like an angel. This album gives us more of the same...pretty vocals. Nothing new under the sun here. I really like Sarah, I don't think she has ever released a bad album and most likely never will, but she will forever sound the same. I really hope that she eventually steps outside her comfort zone....even just for ONE song. Now some could argue that that she already has, with the two Techo/Remix albums. These do not count, they are ONLY remix albums: meaning "other peoples" interpretations. With that said: This album is a must for any Sarah fan but for the casual Sarah fan it could be skipped.

This is not a good album. It is a waste of money. I love her voice, but there is nothing but bland sentiments and passive emotions on this release. What a disappointment given that she's been gone for so long. This is a woman who with a simple turn of voice or a single lyric, could have me writhing in my seat. tugging at my heart. bringing me to the verge of tears. She made me feel emotions I didn't know I was capable of feeling. She sang about raping flowers on the vine, for crissake!

There is none of that here! The only thing that brings me to the verge of tears on this album is the despair I feel at losing a brilliant singer. My dear Sarah.....bring in other songwriters. Seriously. You're tapped out. You're done. She has now become an artist for whom I no longer automatically buy their new albums upon their release.

There are just two good songs on this album: U Want Me 2 (which is good, but we've already heard it before), and Bring on the Wonder (chilling!!!!!!).

Everything else is forced, bland and forgettable. Don't be swayed by these other reviews talking about she has returned to her old form. Some people love an artist so much they're unable to admit that someone has released something as disappointing as this truly is. I miss the old Sarah who had fire in his voice. She sings like she's yawning on this album.

This by far is the worst CD I have ever paid money for. Every boring song blends into the next boring song. I was listening to it in the car and after the third time through, I was going to fling it out the window. Don't buy this.

Samples sound just ok (more of the same Sarah brand music) but 13.99 and 1.29 per song-- no way baby. If it were 9.99 and .99 per song I'd buy, but not worth this inflated price.
