From the Inside Flap

"Lawyered to Death" is a story both of murder and of the corruption that masquerades as business savvy in many large organizations. Author Michael Biehl writes with an insider's knowledge and perspective: He is a hospital chairman and a veteran attorney in a 15-city law firm.

In "Lawyered to Death," Arthur Winslow, the successful CEO of a Midwest hospital, begins an affair with a beautiful hospital receptionist, Shari Billick--unaware that she and her husband Duane are setting him up for an embarrassing and costly sexual harassment claim. Hospital attorney Karen Hayes, first introduced in the author's mystery novel "Doctored Evidence" and married to a blues musician, is called on to defend Winslow against the claim. But soon she finds herself defending him against a murder charge as well, after his ailing wife Lorraine dies from administration of a drug to which she is known to have been allergic.

Karen enlists the aid of Matthew Stoker, a smooth, aggressive young trial lawyer. At his law firm she discovers an abundance of unethical practices

A trail of clues leads her to a long-forgotten file at the firm--and a fight for her own life and that of her infant son.

The roles that ethical shortcuts play in "Lawyered to Death"--in the guise of seeming business success, both at the hospital and the law firm--are particularly timely in this post-Enron era, adding a sense of immediacy to the thriller's suspense and insider authenticity. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superbly written by a professional attorney, October 13, 2003
Superbly written by professional attorney Michael Biehl, Lawyered To Death is a chilling mystery novel of murder, corruption, and legal shenanigans. Hospital attorney Karen Hayes becomes drawn into a scheming web of lies as she strives to defend her client from a sexual harassment claim that becomes a murder charge when his ailing wife dies from the administration of a drug she is allergic to. Karen Hayes must ultimately fight not only for justice, but to protect her own life and that of her infant son in this gripping and suspenseful tale. Also highly recommended is the first Karen Hayes mystery by Michael Biehl: Doctored Evidence.

If you enjoyed Doctored Evidence, you will love this one. It is Karen Hayes at her best uncovering mystery and murder at the local hospital. With its multiple twists and surprises, it is impossible to put down and keeps you guessing. The book provides an interesting inside view of hospital operations and large attorney corporations. Don't miss this one.
