Book Description

March 16, 2011
This ground-breaking guide introduces lawyers and other professionals to a powerful class of software that supports core aspects of legal work. The author discusses how technologies like practice systems, work product retrieval, document assembly, and interactive checklists help people work smarter. If you are looking to work more effectively, this book provides a clear roadmap, with many concrete examples and thought-provoking ideas.

"This book is a first rate primer on knowledge systems for lawyers. On each page, it exhibits the extensive practical experience and deep conceptual insight of its author. Crucially, it is written with a jauntiness and a lightness of touch that render it entirely accessible to all lawyers."
--Professor Richard Susskind, author, The End of Lawyers?

"This is mandatory reading for anyone considering game-changing technology applications with high impact on day-to-day legal practice. From document assembly to decision-assistance, Marc Lauritsen opens the doors to meaningful technological change."
--Dennis Kennedy, author, The Lawyer's Guide to Collaboration Tools and Technologies

5.0 out of 5 stars Knowledge Tools Resource March 18, 2011
Format:Paperback
The book is a strong overview of the use of knowledge tools by lawyers in their everyday practices. While the book introduces the basics of different tools, it is not a "how to" instruction manual - rather, it tasks the reader with considering which tools will help them work smarter, be more productive and address the needs of their clients using systems and technology.

Each chapter offers thought provoking topics on knowledge tools and applications, followed by references to additional resources and actions that the reader can take to further understand and use the applications. For those willing to take the time to read this book, they will be well ahead of the rest in understanding and being able to meet the title's challenge - working smarter with knowledge tools.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Road Map to Digital Tools For Lawyers March 22, 2011
Format:Paperback
This book is an excellent roadmap for lawyers interested in digital tools that help them work more productively. In a single volume you can get an overview of what's available and what's coming. Clients want their lawyers to use whatever information technology tools are available and to pass those savings on to them. Arguably, lawyers who don't understand how to integrate knowledge management told into their law practice are working not smarter, but very inefficiently. Should be required reading for lawyers and especially law students.
