Format: Audio CD
I discovered this band in 2010 at the annual Folk Alliance Conference and was really impressed by their live show. I came home with their then-new CD "Red Wing" and found that they were just as good on CD as live. You can see my review of "Red Wing" on Amazon. The album went on to get lots of airplay and hit the Americana Music charts.
This follow-up is just as good with lead singer (and writer - or co-writer - of 10 of the dozen tracks) Trent Wagler (who also plays guitar and banjo) using his rough-hewed voice to give the songs their strength,. But this isn't a "one-man band" by any means. The other three members add some harmonies (especially on the a capella sections) and damn fine instrumental backing.

While this group from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia promotes themselves as "Americana", they easily fall into the folk category.

This album equals, or exceeds, "Red Wing". These guys get better and better.

I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.

The Steel Wheels new album is nothing less than tremendously stellar! As usual, the instrumentation and vocals (such tight harmony!) are the sublte combination of the folk and blues genres professionally performed by the group. Well-done!

Trent Wagler puts his heart in his singing, and the band has good harmony. Their music has a rich sound, and it's easy to dance to many of their songs. Great fiddle sound. High energy. This may be their best album. I bought this CD at one of their performances, and every band member signed the cover. It was at a festival where many other musicians played, and I liked The Steel Wheels better than all of the other musicians. Attending the festival made me feel very happy and hearing the good music on this album helps me to recapture that good feeling.

Saw these guys live in a small theater. Didn't know of them before but am a fan now! Unique vocals, excellent fiddle. Just great mountain music. If you have a chance to see them in person you won't be disappointed. Great band and a lot of fun.

The Steel Wheels did it again with Lay Down Lay Low. That song in particular is awesome, but then so are most of the songs on this CD. This is my favorite of their recordings, though the others are really good too!
