a fitting end,
By Steven Swain "friendly neighborhood mall geek" (Rocky Mount, VA USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Lay Your Hands on Me (Audio CD)
Saxopohnist Art Porter passed away shortly after the release of this excellent album, "Lay Your Hands on Me." It's a shame, because on this outing, Art finally was able to evolve from the classy but staid production of Jeff Lorber to a more contemporary sound, a process started on the excellent "Undercover" (1994) but not fully realized until this album. "Lay Your Hands on Me" is a delight, featuring production by Chuckii Booker and Brian McKinight and guest vocals from McKnight and Lalah Hathaway, soulful arrangements and Art's distinctive funky improvosations. Each track merits a listen, because they are all beautiful. My favorite song from "Lay Your Hands on Me" is "We Are One," a Booker-produced track that combines the best elements of both artists' styles. If you want a good contemporary jazz album that doesn't leave you guessing who did it halfway through, this is it.

Swan Song!!,

A galliant effort by a lost soul. Art Porter never got the fame for all he's worked for. This album showed how much of a talent the field of smooth jazz has lost. This CD is well recommended.

Just Right,

This review is from: Lay Your Hands on Me (Audio CD)
From the moment I first played this cd till now, it's still one of my favorites. I truly miss the sounds of Art, but I'm glad that I have the chance to still listen to some of his best work. From "Lay Your Hands on Me, One More Chance, Just To Be With You and Wishful Thinking" the album is the best to relax with and work to. If you don't own it, you really should, it's a great buy...
