5.0 out of 5 stars a fitting end, November 20, 2002
This review is from: Lay Your Hands on Me (Audio CD)
Saxopohnist Art Porter passed away shortly after the release of this excellent album, "Lay Your Hands on Me." It's a shame, because on this outing, Art finally was able to evolve from the classy but staid production of Jeff Lorber to a more contemporary sound, a process started on the excellent "Undercover" (1994) but not fully realized until this album.

"Lay Your Hands on Me" is a delight, featuring production by Chuckii Booker and Brian McKinight and guest vocals from McKnight and Lalah Hathaway, soulful arrangements and Art's distinctive funky improvosations. Each track merits a listen, because they are all beautiful. My favorite song from "Lay Your Hands on Me" is "We Are One," a Booker-produced track that combines the best elements of both artists' styles. If you want a good contemporary jazz album that doesn't leave you guessing who did it halfway through, this is it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Swan Song!!, September 4, 2001

This review is from: Lay Your Hands on Me (Audio CD)
A galliant effort by a lost soul. Art Porter never got the fame for all he's worked for. This album showed how much of a talent the field of smooth jazz has lost. This CD is well recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just Right, November 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Lay Your Hands on Me (Audio CD)
From the moment I first played this cd till now, it's still one of my favorites. I truly miss the sounds of Art, but I'm glad that I have the chance to still listen to some of his best work. From "Lay Your Hands on Me, One More Chance, Just To Be With You and Wishful Thinking" the album is the best to relax with and work to. If you don't own it, you really should, it's a great buy...

4.0 out of 5 stars Slick!, December 5, 1999

This review is from: Lay Your Hands on Me (Audio CD)
This CD is full of good music but my favorite is Lake Shore Drive. It is sooo slick and smooth. You can listen to this one song for about an hour, easy. Buy this CD and invite some friends over for dinner. You will get so many compliments on your taste in music. Brian McNight and Laylah Hathaway only compliments Art's talent. If you are just getting into buying smooth jazz, you will love this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars This May Be His Best!!!, December 26, 2005
This review is from: Lay Your Hands on Me (Audio CD)
I have owned all of Art Porter's CD's at one time or another. He was a versatile sax player...who sadly, was cut-off in the prime of his career/life. This CD contains my all time favorite song by him...Lakeshore Drive. The rest of the CD is good, but that song is... and this CD may be his best!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bless the soul of Art Porter, September 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lay Your Hands on Me (Audio CD)
I find this CD extremely enjoyable and regret that we will no longer hear the smooth sax of Mr. Porter. I could write for days about all the things I like about this CD, but in short I will say, listeners will be taken away with the enchanting melodies and smooth vocals of the guest vocalists (e.g. "Wishful Thinking" and "One More Chance"). We miss you Art.

This cd starts with uplifting music which touches you just right. Throughout all 10 tracks, you are relaxed and uplifted by the genius of Mr Porter. This cd is definatly worth the money. Actually, it's worth a whole lot more.
