5.0 out of 5 stars On Another Level-- Straight Up
Project Pat is without a doubt a very talented rapper. Juicy J and DJ Paul are without a doubt gifted producers. When the three come together, you get a rap masterpiece. This is a classic CD on all levels, and it is definitely the best CD to come from Hypnotize Minds. Pat's rap flow is hypnotic and addictive. The bass is bumping and the beats are crunk as always...

The bass is bumping and the beats are crunk as always. There are a few guests on the CD, such as Juvenile who adds a lot of flavor to "Azz Clap". Other very good tracks include, "Still Ridin' Clean" and "Smokin Out". If you heard some of the tracks from the CD by downloading MP3s before the CD was released, boy will you be surprised. There is a lot of material on the CD that probably was never on the net before the CD's release. Some tracks that were on the net, like "Don't Want You Anymore" are not on the CD (too bad; that was a dope track). BUT, the new tracks added before the release are even better. I hope Pat wins his appeal. Four years without Project Pat on the mic is a nightmare I don't want to face. He truly has become the force behind HCP. Any CD that has the words, "Juicy J", "DJ Paul", or "Project Pat" written on it will be spinning in my CD player.

Truly a great album by Project Pat, my only problem is that they left out "Roll Wit It" now I can't find that song anywhere. This album is a must for any Three 6 / HCP fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forever a classic, October 12, 2003
This review is from: Layin Da Smack Down (Audio CD)
Well y'all, Project Pat has done it again (before he got put into jail that is). Project Pat has once again come out with another Hynotize Mindz CD that will be a historic one to date.
Project Pat has NEVER ceased to amaze me when he makes an album and stays out of jail! LoL!
"Still Ridin' Clean" is a catchy song the minute you hear the chorus (that of which i will not repeat on this review, you'll have to get the album and find out).
Songs like "Show Dem Golds" "That Drank" "90 Days" "Shut Yo' Mouth" "Smoke and Get High" and "County Jail" would have to be some of my most favorite songs on "Layin' Da Smack Down". The album is also sort of autobiograhical coming from the streets of North Memphis; and this can be heard in such songs as "County Jail" and "Take Da' Charge". The only song that i didn't like was "Make Dat Azz Clap" because it got annoying and i don't really like Ca$h Money artists as much so it sort of dulled the song anyways.

But this is a new classic hardcore gangsta rap CD, and this is a "must-have" in your CD collection!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not For the Weak Hearted, August 22, 2002
This review is from: Layin Da Smack Down (Audio CD)
(4.5)

Project Pat gets a lot of hate from people not from the Southern Region. With lines like `you can put a wig on a piglet make her dance and jiggle it" and other mindless lines; people automatically write him off as wack. Even though he has put us off on many hits such as " Ballers", Don't Save Her, Gel & Weave, Chickenhead and Sippin On Some Syrup, people still can't catch on. That's ok though...it's mostly a regional thing. You just have to live in the south and experience his music if you know what I'm saying. Riding and fighting music and it also has some chilling tracks as well.

While he is not great lyrically, you really shouldn't expect him to be. With anthems like "Fight' where he claims `We gon fight up in this b....", Azz Clap and Weak A$$ Niccas, you should know his steez. But surprisingly Project Pat gets off on a different subject on Chooz U, which is a straight CLASSIC. DJ Paul and Juicy J are just completely ahead of the rest in terms of production. You cannot say this song is anything but a classic with a straight face. Another CLASSIC is Take Da Charge. The sample is just oh so beautiful and relaxing. Other tight songs include On Nicca, Still Ridin Clean, Posse Song, Shut Ya Mouth as well as the aforementioned songs. The Hypnotize Mindz Camp never fail to produce the hot cds and this is no exception. The bonus disc is basically a throwaway though. With Pat now doing time, this will be the last album from him that we will hear for a while; so seize the moment and Pick Up that Project Pat. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album, July 11, 2006
This review is from: Layin Da Smack Down (Audio CD)
This Project Pat album was good but not as good as Mista Don't Play. Basically that same Project Pat/Three 6 sound on this album, nuttin changed. Dope beats and lyrics once again. Project Pat once again does not disappoint.

TOP TRACKS:
Still Ridin Clean
Fight
Posse Song
Make Dat Azz Clap

Im a Huge Hypnotize Minds fan. Project got 3 stars on this one from me. At first I listened to it and I was like........ come on Pat ya slippin dog. Like Mista Don't Play this Cd's got a few Anthems to roll out on like Weak Ni***Z a straight up classic on this LP. Thing about Pat is hes real .... His lyrics are real.... He went through possibly the roughest year of his career during the production of this album and you can hear this in the songs. This aint no polished Let it Burn Usher crap this is that triple 6 sippin sizzzzzzyrp swords with a few nursery rhymes for the kids so they stop trippin in the back seat when ya rollin up So Pat gets 3 not 5 like ghetty or Mista but i give em 3 he'll be back at us with another 5 believe that. Cash ya Checks... and buy this LP with it and sip on DAT DRANK. Peace
