Review of Don Bollinger's Hardwood Floor Video,

I purchased this video before tackling a re-do on my kitchen, foyer and 1/2 bath. I found this video to be extremely helpful in giving the amateur a quick guide to the basics of hardwood flooring installation. However, the video does not go into great depth in explaining common problems the installer will face, such as simply finding splines to reverse the tongue. I ended up cutting my own splines since most places are VERY RELUCTANT to sell you any -- they want you to use their installers! However, I would recommend this video for anyone tackling this project. I did NOT use raw wood -- we bought the pre-finished 3/4" product and so far are very satisfied with it. It turned out great!

Good for most of the basics,

I am a homeowner looking at installing around 900 square feet of pre-finished hardwood flooring. I'm also an amateur woodworker and reasonably handy around the house.
This DVD covers most of the basics of laying unfinished hardwood floors. While many of the techniques will apply to pre-finished floors, some will not. Pre-finished floors have other considerations that must be taken in to mind, such as covering up blind-nailings along the edge, handling height differences without sanding, use of different (pre-finished-friendly) floor nailers etc. Overall, I thought this was a good DVD with a lot of great information. I recommend it for folks like me who need to see something in action as opposed to just looking at static pictures in a book or on the net. It won't be enough to answer all your questions, however.

A good video that lays out all the steps in order, and gives you a good foundation for laying wood flooring. This would be useful for someone with good basic carpentry skills who wants to tackle a floor. Not necessarily for a neophyte. The video is well filmed and layed out, and the instruction is pretty clear.
