About the Author

William Rawlings, Jr., was born and raised in "The Center of the Universe"—Sandersville, Georgia—where he still lives and practices medicine when he’s not busy growing pine trees, traveling, restoring old buildings or writing books.

"I live on a piece of land that has been in my family for nearly 200 years," the author of The Rutherford Cipher and The Lazard Legacy notes. "Like my father, his father and generations before, we seem to have settled down and have no particular desire to leave this undistinguished bit of rural clay. Lewis Thomas once wrote that an author’s entire world revolves around the tip of his pen. My world, and my perspective of it, is deeply shaped by who I am and where I live."

More About the Author

William Rawlings was born, raised and lives in Sandersville, Georgia, home to his family for more than two centuries. In addition to his five novels in print, he is a frequent contributor to newspapers and magazines, writing on a wide variety of topics ranging from humor to history. One consistent theme in his writing is a well-defined sense of place, especially in relation to the landscape of rural Georgia. Rawlings states, "One of life's greatest pageants is the continuity of life in small Southern towns. Characters wander in and out, plying their intrigues and playing their roles, both major and minor. There's hardly a need for fiction, as the truth is oftentimes more bizarre. What more inspiration could a writer ask for?"

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner, May 30, 2003

I took this book to the beach and found that I couldn't put it down. The historical and Georgia references were so interesting. Although it was obvious early on who the villan was, one was kept in suspense about the details. I found it sheer entertainemt and a fun read.

I checked this book out at the library first, butI am definately purchasing one of my own. I work in Sandersville and have access to get the author to sign a copy for me personally. I love books about the south and mysteries, this one is great. You do know who the villain is but you can hardly put the book down waiting to find out exactly what he did and why. It really makes you wonder what people will do for love and money. Great plot and interesting characters, a really great read. Look for his second novel Fall 2004.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lazard Legacy Rocks, March 27, 2003

William Rawlings is a masterful storyteller in this spellbinding novel. Terror, intrigue, and suspense intertwine to engulf the reader's interest. The ultimate evil that lurks deeply within every resentful sibling-rivalry relationship is clearly epitomized within these pages. The book is a rich mixture of history and fiction, and Rawlings demonstrates his literary flair for the use of local color. As the reader plunges into the turmoil of the timeless theme of Good vs. Evil, one question will remain until the end: Who will win--the "protagonist" or the sociopath/antagonist? This is a must-have read for those who enjoy the captivation of psychological thrillers!
