Editorial Reviews

Brits who had to go down under to release their debut EP after their Earworm EP was warmly received by Mr. Peel over at Radio 1. Driven by superb songwriting & hauntingly melancholic vocals, & aided by a recording aesthetic that gives equal weight to acoustic balladry & staggeringly layered & complex soundscapes, it has the kind of dizzying reach of OTC's "Dusk at Cubist Castle." Dazzling psych pop meets freewheeling tribal folk psych

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty tripppy, but....., November 18, 2007
By
This review is from: Lazily Spun (Audio CD)
.....the songs aren't as good as the hallucinations. Reminiscent of Tripping Daisy's "Jesus Hits Like The Atom Bomb" in that you wish the songwriting was as consistently awesome as the production. I gotta give props to the last track tho, "Blue Mask Of Pan", which is one of the better LSD-influenced nightmares ever committed to tape (er....hard drive) - it's the real deal. If you had never tripped before, and wanted to get an idea, sit in a dark room w/headphones on and listen to this. I hope these guys put out another album sometime before The Apocalypse, 'cos lots of folks "flirt" with psychedelic, but this goes farther than most.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a look, January 29, 2005
This review is from: Lazily Spun (Audio CD)

New psychedelia is not well known for its high production values but this well recorded gem is in its own category . Theres no need to hide the vocals behind the arrangements as the singer Matt, has a superb voice complementing the accoustic/electric sound of the album well .
The songs though sometimes slight ,get under the skin ,'Halcyon Days' for instance keeps coming back ,definitely haunting .
The band is very creative in their use of the studio and drift off into effects but stop short of indulgence in the main , and never threaten, always clean and clear . Maybe a touch too clean in their psychedelic experiments for these ears.

Overall though a definite cut above the rest.
