Product Description

The Lazy Person’s Guide to Success

How to Get What You Want without Killing Yourself for It by Ernie J. Zelinski

In our workaholic world, we’re in desperate need of reminders that the most valuable, productive, and enjoyable moments in our lives are usually those we spend doing the least. Ernie J. Zelinski’s secret of success is so simple you’ll wonder why you never thought of it yourself: work less, think more. In the best-selling THE JOY OF NOT WORKING, Ernie extols the freedoms of joblessness; in THE LAZY PERSON’S GUIDE, he shows how to make work more fulfilling and relaxing by redefining success in terms of happiness. Two books in one, the first for the lazy achiever and the second for the truly lazy achiever, this quirky little guide combines humor and wisdom to provide plenty of reasons to sit back, kick your heels up, and use the power of creative loafing to get the most out of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Personal Freedom is a Mindset Change Away, October 27, 2006
By bronx book nerd (Bronx, NY USA) - See all my reviews

For me, this book was a real eye-opener. I have been caught in the organizational/corporate trap with seemingly nowhere to go. I have at times felt like a repressed creative person, though I have had some opportunities to express my creativity via my work. Recent changes in my work status have led me to books like this one, which present a clear alternative to the 9-to-5 rut. Zelinsky's ideas cut right through many of the false assumptions about jobs, wealth and security with which we have all been raised. You can, if you really want, find wealth and success by working less. It's a matter of finding your true calling, using your talent, and providing value in the new economy. This book has given me great confidence to venture forth to a brighter future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick Read, May 30, 2007
By C "C" (California Bay Area) - See all my reviews
This is an easy, fun, quick read. One side of the page has salient points and the other the more detailed argument. You can breeze through reading either way. The book is based on the idea that you will get farther and do better by working smarter instead of harder as well as defining what you really want and need to be happy.

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth it - negative motivational, August 28, 2009
Zelinski's Lazy Person's Guide to Success seemed like it would be a good book for a close friend who can't seem to stay with a job, an apartment or house, and is generally dissatisfied (and also likes to sleep in and do as little as possible). The problem is, the book's central message is "lose your desire for everything, then you'll have attained success because you have all you now want." This is not particularly helpful for anyone who has to live in this society. It's especially not helpful for those who are already low on motivation and who already don't particularly desire to work.

This book assumes the target person is independently wealthy, or has relatives who are delighted to let the person endlessly sponge off of them. What a waste of money this book was -- use the cost of this book to give the person an extra half-tank of gas and a local paper with job ads instead.

This book is terribly repetitive and trite. There are 3, maybe 4, pages of material that are worthwhile. Read more

Just one great idea can change your life dramatically; look for it. Hard work is the enemy of creativity. The more hard work your indulge in, the less creative you become. Read more
