Although I do prefer some of the canned and jarred versions, which are actually from Tunisia, this harissa from France has the advantage of being in a tube. This means that it wil have a greater shelf life. To prolong the life of the others, a piece of plastic wrap pressed down against the harissa will help with storage. That said, this is a fine product to go with any of your couscous dishes, and more.

I love spicy dishes, but the problem with many is the peppers and mixes have the heat without flavor (or terrible flavor if, for example, the peppers are habaneros.) This is a dream come true for me and I purchased a tube on a whim. What a serendipitous find!

To be sure this is not for folks who like a touch of Tabasco or jalapenos. This paste is up there with habeneros for heat, but imparts wonderful flavors that you would never obtain from anything made with that pepper.

Since I've not been using this that long I've only had occasion to use it in an omelet, beans and a fish stew. Believe me, even if you love your food super spicy a little of this goes a long way. It overpowered the first omelet until I figured out how much was enough (about an eighth of a teaspoon works well). A tablespoon mixed with 16 ounces of pinto beans cooked in a recaito sauce like Goya Recaito - Cilantro Cooking Base makes for a perfect side or main dish.

What sets this apart from every other hot sauce or paste I've tried is the interesting way it teases your palate. The label claims that in addition to peppers it contains carrots, turnips, tomatoes, coriander and caraway seeds. While I do not doubt that, the flavors become almost ineffable when blended with the dish in which it's used, and as spicy as it is, that aspect does not overpower the flavor. If anything it enhances it.

This seems to be a standard ingredient in North African cooking. While I have not tried harissa from a North African country (this is from France), a small amount this adds flavor to my couscous, tagines, and marinades quite nicely. The paste is quite potent and tastes mostly of red chili, but also contains some notes of sweetness and spice (coriander, maybe?). It packs a lot more heat than, for example, a sriracha, so I wouldn't recommend it be used by itself as a condiment. It is useful in adding some heat to condiments and sauces, though.

Great product - but it definitely packs a punch! I used 1.5 tablespoons for a big pot of soup, and it was almost too spicy!

The first time I heard of harissa paste was for a chickpea patty recipe. I made it from scratch. Delicious but a bit time consuming. I saw this on amazon and gave it a try. What can you say- cheap, convenient, delicious- a no-brainer. I have ordered it ever since.

My product came when promised. It's got a lot of heat and great flavor.. A little goest a long way. It's great to use for a sweet and spicy dish like wings or a cocktail sauce. Also a great kick for chili or fra diablo. Start small, you can always add more.

Used this harissa paste for a traditional Moroccan carrot dip, and it gave it just the right amount of peppery flavor. I love the harissa paste vesus the powder for this use, it seems to have more depth of flavor. For meat rubs, try the dry harissa spice.

This is my first time ordering this paste, which I saw in a food magazine. It's hotter than I expected, but I think it has a very nice flavor, and I like adding it to anything that needs a kick of spice...even popcorn butter!
