Outstanding Wellingtons. The black ones look a lot like riding boots. I love the full leather lining on the legs. I love the full-length zippers (which have properly made rubber gussets behind them so water can't get in, even if you are standing in it. The boots are heavy. My calves aren't large, and I wish we could buy in the U.S. the small-calf versions available in France. Even with my pants folded inside the boots, they aren't tight, though they are considerable trimmer than most Wellingtons, thanks to the zipper. The tread is serious and should last for years. Take the size recommendations seriously. I usually wear 10 1/2 or 11 shoes, so I ordered size 10. The only way I can wear these is with a pair of heavy winter socks over the pair of dress socks I usually wear. Of course, that's okay, as I only wear the boots in the fall and winter, and they aren't insulated. Still, I almost could have gotten by with a size 9, even with two pairs of socks.
Break in? No need. Straight out of the box (with two pairs of socks) I walked around ten miles in 3 1/2 hours while following a fox hunt through fields and woods and rocks and creeks, in hilly terrain. No blisters. I think that's the farthest I've ever walked in a day in my life.
Expensive boots. Maybe a silly purchase. But the quality is exceptional. And now I don't have to deal with wet feet and pants while fox-hunting (my girlfriend rides, but I stumble along behind her as best I can).
