Not Iron and Below Usual Le Creuset Quality,
By Matt in Oakland (Oakland, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Le Creuset 8-Quart Stockpot, Blue (Kitchen)
I've used it and sent it back. My iron Le Cruset products are great. This one, made of steel and coated with enamel, started chipping on the exterior and interior after only one month of use. I was not impressed.

This stockpot is wonderful!. They have a double core inside. They are great for soups and sauces. I make an awesome southwest corn chowder in them (recipe go toabout.com)Le Creuset Enamel-on-Steel 6-Quart Covered Stockpot, Cobalt) You cannot cook sauces on high heat or it will burn the bottom. You have to simmer sauces on low or medium heat. I had to use these pots because I used to have an induction stove and only LeCreuset pots worked on my other stove. I no longer have the stove, but still have these pots. I love them. The company is wonderful about replacing the pot if you have a problem. You call their 800 number and get a referral number and send the pot back to their company in South Carolina. LeCrueset is great about replacing their products and are backed by a 101 year warranty. I also have a couple of dutch ovens and a few sauce pans and frying pans. They wash up nicely and are readily easy to clean. The one problem I had with the stock pot (not the one I currently own) was that underneath the handle, rust (the size of a pinhole)(used to leak out of the outside of the pot and run down the pot. I called the company and they replaced it, but the same thing kept happening. The company explained it as heat and expansion. My personal opinion was that this is a manufacturer's defect. (Rust does not look too great when you are serving to company, running down the side of the pot). I sent the defective pots back to them and you can trade up to another pot, which I did. I traded pots I didn't want with them and got pots (another dutch oven) that I could use. I recently reordered the Stockpot here and now I do not have a problem with the holes and rust down the bottom on the stockpot I received from Amazon.com. I finally received a perfect pot!! These pots are great for cooks and chefs and all types of cooking. They are professional pots. Emeril uses them, Martha Stewart, Bobby Flay, etc. I love them and like I stated the 101 year warranty is excellent. By far, the best warranty that anyone ever has. And believe me, I have sent my pots back a couple of times with absolutely no problem with them returning a replacement.

I ordered this one as my first purchase of Le Creuset products, and it was way below my expectation. The enamel coating looks pretty but is very hard for cleaning. Even my soup ingredients sticked to the bottom and I had to scrub really hard to get rid of it. I will stick to my Calphalon nonstick saucepan from now on.

I use this enameled steel stock pot as a STOCK pot and for boiling vegetables, but not for low-liquid cooking. It is of a suitably heavy construction, seems like it won't dent easily. I have had no problems with chipping or sticking, and I have found the pot easy to clean. I got the pot from Amazon after purchasing the blue enamel accessory steamer and rice cooker locally. The steamer sits on top of the pot. It steams quickly and flavors are preserved much better than by the usual short-legged steamers that fit in the bottom of a pot. I put about 1"-2" water in the pot. The rice cooker, which also sits on top of the pot, works as well as the double-boiler type aluminum rice cooker I used to have. It requires slightly less water than my old rice cooker, and works just as well. I use this pot and its accessories frequently, and am very happy with all of them. Enamel cookware, both cast-iron and steel, can stain and chip, but it can take more abuse than any other cookware I have used and still remain perfectly useable. My cast-iron Le Creuset cookware, chipped and stained, is about 25 years old now. Recommended especially for absent-minded cooks.

This is a nice pot for stews, lobster, large tomato sauce or whatever you need a lot of.
I dont buy Le Creuset normally. Although being beautiful they are heavy but not this one! This one is good looking and lightweight. Must use plastic utensils for stirring and cleaning. Be careful not to damage inside enamel.

Chips terribly!,

We purchased the enamel on steel stockpot and used it about six months. We noticed that the outside chipped a couple of times for no apparent reason. Then last night after making a pot of vegetable soup, I saw that BIG chunks of the enamel has chipped off on the interior of the pot! We paid about $50 for the stockpot, and it only lasted six months! That's a MAJOR RIP OFF!We have used one of LeCreuset's enameled iron pans for years, and truly love it. However, their enamel on steel is HORRIBLE. I wouldn't waste my money on their stockpot again!

We purchased this because the price was right at the time and because we own other Le Creuset products and were never disappointed with them. Well the same is true now, we are very happy with this one too.
