4.0 out of 5 stars Actually 3.5qt!
As another reviewer has mentioned, this pot is actually 3.5qt according to the markings cast into it and also the box label. However, unlike the 3.5qt French Oven, it has a single straight pot handle (about 4" long, just fits in the hand) rather than two U-shaped handles, which I think is a little less practical. This thing is heavy on its own, and even heavier...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great pot but the handle is way too short
The short handle and lack of an additional handle on the other side of the pot makes pouring the contents of the pot very difficult. I also find that the lid is not as "tight fitting" as Le Creuset would like you to think. Whenever I boil water, some of it will spit out over the side of the pot. It may just be my pot. Overall, I love the Le Creuset line b/c they are...

4.0 out of 5 stars Actually 3.5qt!, January 8, 2003
This review is from: Le Creuset Saucier 3.5 QT
As another reviewer has mentioned, this pot is actually 3.5qt according to the markings cast into it and also the box label. However, unlike the 3.5qt French Oven, it has a single straight pot handle (about 4" long, just fits in the hand) rather than two U-shaped handles, which I think is a little less practical. This thing is heavy on its own, and even heavier when it's full of food, so you really want to be moving it with both hands. Also, if you're going to take advantage of its good looks to serve food directly from the pot, the handle will take up space on the table and increase the chances that somebody will burn themselves on it, especially if it's been in the oven so that the handle is very hot.

Still though, this thing has true Le Creuset quality, meaning that it's great for slow-cooking but can also sear/brown foods at higher heat, which is a critical combination of features for many soups and stews, which call for searing or caramelizing ingredients before the liquid is added, which then deglazes all those great-tasting bits from the browning process into the liquid. Also, this pot will last forever if properly cared for, so consider that when deciding if it is worth the price.

In summary, I bought this particular piece because of a temporary price markdown that made it too good to pass up, but generally speaking, the French Ovens from Le Creuset are a bit more practical because of the handle issue.

You get so many benefits from high quality Le Crreuset products. Great heat distribution from all sources, gas, electric,.The double enamel surface keeps acidic foods from reacting and is very durable. The pots and pans come in beautiful colors. I enjoy a mix of the colors for my set.
Be aware these are HEAVY, so you also get a great upper body workout to boot

The cooking is wonderful. This is my 2nd Le Creuset. I bought this 3.5 quarts with one handle and I regret! With hot food in it, coming out of the oven with your 2 hands on this only handle its heavy! Don't buy it for Gran'Ma she won't like it. I suggest the 2 handles one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cooking couldn't be easier, July 4, 2003

I have a couple of pieces of these, and I love them. They work wonderfully, as they generate heat throughout the pan, leaving you with no hotspots. You can simmer or cook at high heat, either way, the pan does great. My favorite feature, and one I hate to admit is that if you burn something in the pan, its very easy to clean up becuase it will not stick. That in itself has made me grab for this pan instead of others.

Of course it's heavy, but c'mon, it's cast iron!
I own two of these pots in cherry red, and i use them almost daily. The trick is not to fill it to the brim. Of course the handle gets hot but it's nothing an oven mitt couldn't solve.
I have quite a few Le Creuset pieces- french ovens, pots and various casseroles. This size is definitely the most useful in the kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even makes boiling water fun!, December 1, 2005
This review is from: Le Creuset Saucier 3.5 QT
I love this pot. Sure it's heavy, and the handle is a bit short, but to me that's part of the charm and individuality of this wonderful pot. I use it several times a week and each time it brings me happiness . . . even if I use it just to boil water for pasta. What more can you ask?

Overall, I love the Le Creuset line b/c they are great to cook with and super easy to clean. I would pass on this pot and buy a Le Creuset french oven of a similar size, it'll do the job just as well.
