Like much of the Le Creuset line, these dishwasher safe round silicone hot pads have multiple uses. Covered with ridges they make excellent trivets for resting hot pots and pans on while allowing for air flow. The ridges also make these perfect to set eggs on so they don't roll off the counter. They are firm enough to use as a fan when a little air movement would come in handy. Combined with the ridges, they are flexible enough for opening jars and bending/gripping around medium to large handles.

The only drawback is that they don't work well with smaller sized handles. This makes using these pads with other Le Creuset product like the pate terrine or the au gratins pretty much useless when it comes to grabbing and moving them.

PROS:
Useful and versatile
Sturdy
Heat resistant
Dishwasher safe

CONS:
Cannot effectively grab smaller sized handles

I love these hot pads. They are the perfect size and shape and thickness. I used to have a square silicone hot pad, but it was too thick and too awkward and I ended up never using it. I would keep getting one of the edges smeared into the food. These cool tool hot pads work really well at not burning your hands, easy to handle, and they work great to protect your table when you have hot dishes. With big casseroles, just put one underneath each end. Great colors too, I have them all. The kiwi and Caribbean colors especially look pastel-brighter online. They are actually a darker more bold color. I'm very happy with them.

We use these to cover our glass stovetop to protect our cats from being burned after heating. They are also useful for placing hot items from the stove/oven onto the countertop and for grabbing hot items when the oven mit isn't handy. We have two colors, one for accent.

They don't scratch the glasstop, they have no problems in the dishwasher, are entirely functional, and look very nice. Very useful in the kitchen !

Practical for the smallest pot only. They really should post the dimension. Pricey for such a small item.

Update: Having this item in the kitchen for a few months has shown just how practical this item can be. It is sturdy, fits the hand well, nice for resting something hot. Its true utility, however, may be as a great & easy way to open that stubborn jar or other container. It has held up extremely well & is very sturdy. The ribbed texture makes it so useful. It is a very thick rubber & actually is worth the price. Still looks new despite almost daily use.

Update 2012: Still looks new. Great, versatile, kitchen item. Worth the cost.

This Le Creuset cool tool is great as it is a trivet or a pot holder, whatever you need at the time. It doesn't work as well for smaller handles so stick with the bigger handles for this one. I LOVE that I can just toss it in the dishwasher with the rest of the dishes after a meal so that's a plus.

Why buy a Le Creuset silicon cool tool you ask? Because it matches the blue of my Le Creuset pots so everything looks great together.

My only regret is not getting two of them.

It's nice under a cutting board on the counter. Keeps the board from sliding. Good for hot plates.

I am slowly adding more and more Le Creuset products in my kitchen and I am more and more impressed each time. I find myself using this to rest hot pots, open difficult jars and grab hot pans from one stove to another.

Easy to clean and store. Two is the perfect quantity.

I got a set of these as a very wonderful present from my husband, who was a Le Creuset fan. (The pot roast that emerged from the cherry red Dutch oven was his favorite dish, so the Le Creuset got all the praise, not the cook!!!) No, really, they make great cookware but the lids have those resin knobs and the side enamel-coated iron handles and they get hot, so you need two of these to move the pot off the stove or out of the oven. And a few more for your counter as trivets.

I'd actually suggest you buy some Silicone MITTS for moving heavy Dutch ovens out of the oven or even off the stove, especially if you have hand issues (I have some arthritis.) But I keep a set of these next to the stove to toss down as trivets and to use to lift a pot lid as most of my pots do not have insulated knobs. These are durable, attractive, handy and washable. Make great hostess presents. They may look simplistic, but they are absolutely useful and versatile. I suggest you get about four of them; I started with two and I found I needed a few more.
