Introduction

All items in the Le Creuset stoneware range are original designs and have been hand-crafted, making each piece unique. Due to this uniqueness, there may be slight variations from piece to piece.

Le Creuset Stoneware is safe for use in the microwave, freezer, refrigerator, dishwasher, oven and broiler. The maximum oven-safe temperature is 500 degrees F / 260 degrees C.

The enameled surface is easy to clean and scratch-resistant. The enamel is completely hygienic and will not absorb odors or flavors. Le Creuset Stoneware is extremely strong and durable, and resists staining, chipping and cracking. The handles, knobs and rims have been designed for a secure, easy-to-hold grip.

Cleaning and Care

DO NOT use any Stoneware piece on the stovetop or any other direct heat source.

OVEN: Maximum oven-safe temperature is 500 degrees F / 260 degrees C. Use oven mitts for lifting at all times.

BROILER: When using under a broiler allow a gap of no less than 2-1/2 inches between the rim of the dish and the heat source.

MICROWAVE: Handles may become hot during prolonged microwave use, especially if the handles are enclosed with plastic wrap. Cover just the open top of the dish, leaving the handles exposed.

FREEZER-TO-OVEN USE: Do not place a frozen dish of food in a preheated oven. Place the frozen dish in a cold oven and set the temperature, allowing the dish and oven to heat together. Before serving always check that the center of the food is completely and uniformly hot.

CLEANING: Before the first use, wash the dish in hot, soapy water, and rinse and dry thoroughly. For most day-to-day cleaning, cool the dish for a few minutes before washing and drying, or wash in the dishwasher, allowing the full cycle to complete. Never leave a dish fully immersed in water. For removal of stubborn residues allow the dish to cool, fill with warm, soapy water and allow it to soak for 10 to 20 minutes. Wash in the usual way using a plastic brush or scouring pad if necessary.

Dinner for two with some leftovers? At 2 quarts, this is the perfect-size casserole. You can take it out of the freezer, pop it into a cold oven, and heat it up to as high as 500 degrees F. Or put it under the broiler, then use it in the microwave. You can even serve from this casserole, because it's Le Creuset, which is to say it's colorful and stylish. The baked-on interior and exterior enamel coating means this pot will not react with any acidic foods and is easy to clean by hand or in the dishwasher. --Schuyler Ingle

I contacted Le Crueset directly and they advised that this casserole is only safe for microwave and oven. Please see their email response below:

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in Le Creuset. Poterie cannot be used on the stovetop, only in the microwave and in the oven. It is not designed for direct heat, if it used it will cause breakage to the item. If we can further assist you let us know.

In addition to NOT being stovetop safe, as pointed out by a previous reviewer, the tech data also indicates country of origin: France. Mine was marked: Made in Tialand. It clearly is not up to the standards of my French produced pieces - main complaint is the poorly fitting lid - the top litterally skitters around on a 1/2" gap (horizontally) between the top and bottom lips - a very poor fit/tolerance. There are also several blemishes in the stoneware transalting into either dimples (innies) or pimples (outies) in the glaze finish - basically caused by impurities in the slurry mixture or poorly handled molds. Although none of this will impact the intended function of this baker / casserole, when one pays the big price for Le Creuset, one expects top notch form AND function. If all I expect is function I can drop a few bucks for Pyrex.

This 1 1/2-Quart Round Casserole with Lid is a small but practical-sized dish to add to a Le Creuset collection. I'm a longtime collector of Le Creuset pots and pans, and 'flame' is my favorite color for them. I love the new Poterie stoneware line: baking dishes, ramekins, pitcher, and the crock for utensils. The colors are great, and they match the pots and pans perfectly. I use this red casserole dish when serving family-style at the table, and it's perfect for storing frozen or refrigerated casseroles for quick reheating on busy weeknights. These Poterie dishes coordinate especially well with Fiestaware dishes and serveware, and they make colorful additions to festive buffets. They are freezer-safe, microwave-safe, ovenproof up to 500 degrees F., and can go in the dishwasher.

This is to second another review here. This item, while beautiful, is not up to the usual Le Creuset standards (and I own 8 or 9 other Le Creuset pieces, with which I am quite happy). The lid on this casserole is loose, and however arranged, is never even close to a snug fit. If I hadn't thrown away the box, I would return it.

This item is not made in France, but made in Thailand. The lid is NOT tight fitting, quite the opposite really. Still the pot looks nice, and is a good size for one or two person stews.

If you're like me you expect Le Creuset items to be made in France as they have been in the past. Not this one - bottom says made in Thailand. The color on the lid of this pot is very different from what Amazon is showing - it is a much lighter red, almost like Kool-Aid red - yucky IMO. And finally, the casserole is VERY heavy. Which means when it is full of food it will be SUPER heavy and hard to lift out of the oven. Although it feels like a pretty good piece of crockery, I just can't recommend it for the above reasons.

I can't say enough good things about this beautifully-colored, lidded casserole dish. From fruit cobblers to hot dips or even a small lasagna, it performs extremely well and can easily be taken from the frigid temperature of the freezer to the high heat of the oven and then to the table. Food bakes evenly, the lid keeps contents warm, and its attractive, vibrant color is sure to enhance any recipe. With a 1 1/2-quart capacity, it's perfect for two as a main dish or for four or more as a side dish. Well worth the price!
