4.0 out of 5 stars A tour de force
So LeAnn Rimes was influenced by Patsy Cline? What's the problem? Patsy Cline was influenced by the Kay Starr records she collected. Patsy's love of Hank Williams and yodeling led to Patsy's "Honky Tonk Blues." And the Bee Gees grew up listening to the Mills Brothers. And the Beach Boys studied the charts of the Four Freshmen. And Billie Holiday listened...

3.0 out of 5 stars Her voice is strong, maturing.
It was only a matter of time before LeeAnn did this album, she's been compared with Patsy Cline from day one. She's not, of course and maybe doesn't quite make the sound of Patsy Cline, but she sure makes the sound of LeeAnn Rimes and that ain't bad. Her voice is maturing.

4.0 out of 5 stars A tour de force, November 22, 1999
This review is from: LeAnn Rimes (Audio CD)
So LeAnn Rimes was influenced by Patsy Cline? What's the problem? Patsy Cline was influenced by the Kay Starr records she collected. Patsy's love of Hank Williams and yodeling led to Patsy's "Honky Tonk Blues." And the Bee Gees grew up listening to the Mills Brothers. And the Beach Boys studied the charts of the Four Freshmen. And Billie Holiday listened to Louie Armstrong. This tribute album by Miss Rimes is performed to perfection. How she has grown in two years. While one can always hear the influence of Patsy, the LeAnn nuances are sprinkled liberally here and there, as she makes each song her own and exerts magnificent control over her phrasing. (The only thing that keeps it from five stars is "Me and Bobby McGee," a great Janis Joplin song -- a LeAnn Rimes song, not. So skip over it, but treasure the rest -- and tap your feet and sing along. This kid has "it.")

5.0 out of 5 stars LeAnn pays tribute....and does it well!, January 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: LeAnn Rimes (Audio CD)
Numerous reviewers have complained because this is a CD of, primarily remakes. If you bought this CD and didn't read the list of songs, you have no one to blame but yourself...If on the other hand you bought LeAnn's self titled CD and didn't recognize the song titles...then, you are no long-term country fan and probably don't know these songs for the excellent country traditions they are! I also don't understand why so much comparison is made to Patsy Cline...LeAnn does as good a job as any singer I've ever heard (Ever hear Loretta Lynn's tribute to Patsy? I love Loretta...but, come on!)I think LeAnn does an admirable job at almost every cover, with the exception of the old Janis Joplin standard, Kristopherson's, "Me and Bobby McGee" and let's face it, those are pretty hard hippy boots to fill! But, in general, I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of this CD. If you like Patsy, Hank, Marty, Bob, Janis, and Buck....buy it. It's a keeper!

If you have not yet bought the newest self-titled "LeAnn Rimes" CD, you are missing out on an AWESOME Tribute to the past. LeAnn really knows how to sing her little heart out. You can really hear her emotions on this CD. Whether she's heartbroken or angry, she sings all these emotions perfectly. I highly recommend this CD! You WON'T be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music To My Ears, December 14, 1999

This is without question one of the best albums I have ever listened to and I am not strictly a country fan. I am amazed at the sincerity and feeling in such a young voice. These usually come from experencing the things you are singing about.LeAnn's singing of Patsy Clines hits is almost breath taking but then I am a romantic at heart.

LeAnn's voice has matured these past few years and she is now an amazing country singer (as always). I loved this album and it is so much fun to listen to! If you are a new country fan, buy this album to introduce yourself to all the classic songs. This album is great and I love LeAnn's voice. She is very talented and I think you all will agree!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Masterpiece from LeAnn Rimes..............., November 20, 1999
This review is from: LeAnn Rimes (Audio CD)
LeAnn Rimes has done it again. Another work of art. Even though she does covers of old country classics, she does them beautifully!

I agree with a review that was written earlier. This is what LeAnn has decided on, what she wants to share through the feeling of the songs. If she hasn't exactly written a pile of stuff, she has a great voice and sings all songs she sings extremely, beautifully well.

In "Me and Bobby McGee" she really gets into the song. Patsy Cline's "Crazy" is done extremely: again, Rimes gets into the feel of the song. Same as "Leavin' On Your Mind", "She's Got You" and "I Fall To Pieces". The highlight for me was "Big Deal" a new piece of Rimes talent. She conveys the stories of Big Deal, and all of her songs with her clear tone, and beautiful voice. It's like you are there.

This is another fabulous work by LeAnn. I wish I could give more than five stars!

This new LeAnn CD is great. It has a bunch of good songs in it like "Big Deal". LeAnn's voice is great in it with all the other CD's she made. I gave her the 5 stars because that's what she deserves. I hope she makes more great CD's soon. I will always enjoy the songs that she sings so well.

There is no one else on this planet who could have pulled off these covers like LeAnn.

Her voice is even better than it was on Blue.

We love you LeAnn!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album of 1999! LeAnn is the best!, November 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: LeAnn Rimes (Audio CD)
LeAnn has been more than a great success mainly in the USA, but also a huge success all over the world on the charts, with awards, and big fans. LeAnn was so nice to honor country music's greatest artists like Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, and others. Like LeAnn said, she wants to bring back the traditional sound of country with her incredible album, and let my generation (of teens and kids of the 90's) let us know how country used to be heard as. Now country music is crossing over into other music catagories. This album sure did it! It was #1 on the Billboard Country Albums for 2 weeks, it went Gold in just 2 weeks, and has a Top 20 single! Congrats to LeAnn Rimes on a great album!
