Taking over the top job, whether it’s the CEO of a company or the manager of a department, is never easy. When done the right way, it results in inspired leadership; when done the wrong way, it can lead to disaster. To be effective, the people in charge must give their team a reason to believe in their talents and their ability to get people to work together. Great leadership requires decisiveness, authority, conviction, compassion, and, most important, the ability to set the right example. It would seem easy, but it takes a lifetime of trying to put it into practice. In Lead by Example, recognized leadership guru John Baldoni reveals the traits and abilities leaders need to know to inspire others to follow them. Readers will learn how to:
listen for ideas • manage around obstacles • defuse tension • check their egos • stand up for what they believe in • manage crises • develop team confidence • recruit good people • deliver bad news • handle defeat • engage their enemies
Filled with examples of visionary leaders who have overcome their shortcomings and achieved greatness, Lead by Example will show readers how to build trust, drive results, and win the respect of the people they lead.

I highly recommend this book!,
This review is from: Lead by Example: 50 Ways Great Leaders Inspire Results (Hardcover)
I love John's work. This book provides great insight that leaders can use. It doesn't have to read 'all at once' but can be digested in 'pieces'. This will make a great reference book for leaders.

A very good book which should be required reading for all new supervisors and managers. Very down to earth, and in many ways just plain common sense, but presented in such a way that that it could easily be used as a guide and reference book. I liked it so well that I orded another John Baldoni book on Communication.

Gets to the Heart of Leadership,
By
This review is from: Lead by Example: 50 Ways Great Leaders Inspire Results (Hardcover)
This is a terrific book. The title, Lead by Example, says it all, and given that approach, the author really gets it right. Books on leadership typically offer advice on strategy and outcomes, message and vision. But Baldoni gets to the heart of the nature of leadership: the living idea of serving one's organization and followers--that is, by example. Baldoni shows how leading by example is the true lesson to be absorbed by modern-day leaders. The chapter on "Being Tough" alone is worth the price of the book, given the uncertainties and turmoil in today's economic climate. I also love the design of this book, and the four clear guideposts the author provides for the reader: Set the Right Example, Act the Part, Handle the Tough Stuff, and Put the Team First. I highly recommend putting this book on your leadership shelf!
